Hi, happy new year to all and wishes for a whole lot of good dice-rolling!
So after my gaming group and I became fed up with GW's exorbitant prices, we decided to take a look at KoW. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned the rules in about 30 minutes from a free 32-page pdf download, although I will probably buy the hardback as well. The game looks solid and interesting and a lot faster (and cheaper) than WHFB.
So I am thinking of going with either Undead or Ogres. The only reason not to choose Undead is the sheer number of models. (also look at my PS)
And I have a question on Ogres. Are they fun to play? They have few choices in their army list, and I feel they might be easy to rout, but I might be wrong. Is this so?

PS. Also, why the huge difference in points value in KOW's army sets? If I have calculated correctly, Ogres get some 700+ points, Elves more than 800, most others get 500-600, and Undead only add up to a lowly 400+.

Thanks.

I've had quite a bit of fun with my Ogres, I recommend them. A shaman is currently being sculpted at Mantic, but if you find a usable substitution, make sure you take one with a couple blocks of berzerkers. They're great. The Red Goblin Blasters are also excellent additions-50pts that can easily wipe an entire unit if they hit, or multiple units if they run up close. Their leadership is garbage though, so run a couple and pray one gets in-your opponents will only allow them to hit once. Think of a Mangler squig on caffeine. A couple units of Red Goblin archers might make for some good screens, then just finish it up with some heavy hitters and a couple crossbow units and you're in great shape.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Thanks timetowaste! I don't see any goblins units in the Ogre section of Mantic's site so I suppose they are using the normal Goblins instead. I can probably use my WHFB goblins for a start and slowly build up a complete army, if I decide to run Ogres eventually. I see some Ogre conversion opportunities as well, with Orc parts being plentiful in my bitz boxes!
I am still somewhat worried that Ogres' leadership is pretty low too though.
Oh, and by shaman I suppose you mean the Warlock and Berserkers you mean the Braves stated in the army list?

Undead are just more of a horde army, once they start to add characters (and you will want a lot of necromancers to make the most out of the army) the points start to catch up to the other armies.

Yeah, what I saw with undead, lots of cheap necromancers get your guys FLYING across the board. And you're right, warlock and braves for the ogres. Lol. Basic Orc boyz arms will translate perfectly onto Mantic's ogres as well to give you the two CC weapons for the braves. The goblins are taken directly from the goblin section of Mantic's site, but the ones on foot only use bows and the ones on mawbeasts use spears. I think it's around 80 pts for 20 gobbos on foot and 110 for ones on beasts, so not super over priced, they aren't yellow bellied, and cheaply unlock the blasters I mentioned. Can't go wrong.

I generally see a lot of conversion coming my way. I have loads of Orcs and Goblins leftover bitz of all kinds, so it will be pretty easy to convert some Ogres to my liking. Same applies for Red Goblins.

My brother in law and I just started playing KoW, it reminds me of the fun I used to have with warhammer years ago. Fast games, and your not removing on model at a time or rifling through piles of books for rules. I'm having lots of fun with orcs and he's playing undead. I hope he doesn't hear the advice about lots of necromancers. They are a pain to break through the huge units.
