Subject: Mk IV Shoulder Pads.

I'm thinking of getting a set of the new Mk IV Salamanders shoulder pads to outfit some of the veterans and sergeants in my Salamanders collection. However, I'm not sure how close the Mk IV pads resemble Mk VII pads (the standard ones in a plastic kit). It seems to me that the shoulder pad trim is thinner on the Mk IV than the Mk VII pads. If anybody can confirm how close the two types are to each other it would be a great help.

The mkIV is less than half as thick as the normal plastic pads. I was actually shocked at how thin they were on the 3 sets of standard MKIV I bought. I'll post a picture in a few minutes as I have to find all y stuff ;p
From left to right - MKIV, tactical with honors, 3rd Ed pad, deathwatch pad.
Hope that's helpful.

I presume that's the trim your referring to? That's the bit that's concerning me the most as I reckon it'll look out of place on Mk VII armour and I don't want a full set of Mk IV armour just yet. :(

Yah the trim. The MKIV as you can see is extremely thin comparatively.

Yeah, I can see now that the trims are hellish thin compared to the standard. I'd rather not get the standard FW Salamander pads as they're dripping with all kinds of scales/scrolls etc. (Which I associate more with veterans than junior sergeants) so I thought I'd go for the newer 'cleaner' ones - guess I may have to stick with the fancy ones though. Anyway, many thanks for the help!

Chapterhouse Studios makes some "not-Salamanders" shoulderpads. Alternatively, you could go for the MkII or MkIII Salamanders shoulderpads from Forgeworld. They're not as decorated as the regular.

Yah those ones from chapterhouse are nice but they are stupendously easy to do with even a mediocre skill using green stuff if you were so inclined.

@Tannhauser42 - I've never been keen on the Chapterhouse Salamanders stuff - just a personal thing. And regarding the Mk II or III pads - they are an option, but they look nowhere near like a Mk VII pad, so the point is kinda moot as I was wanting something that looked simply like a Mk VII pad with a sculpted chapter symbol. In any case, it's not a huge problem to get one of the other sets, I was just hoping the Mk IV ones could be passed off as Mk VII. Thanks for the idea though
