Current list I'm running atm.

HQ
Librarian, mastery level 2, stave.

Command squad. Standard of devastation, 3 plasma guns, company champion in a razorback with TL lascannon

Elites:
10x DW Knights using DWA

Troops:
10x Tactical Marines with Meltagun and Lascannon
Sargent With Power Sword and Plasma Pistol
Rhino

10x Tactical Marines with Meltagun and Lascannon
Sargent With Power Sword and Plasma Pistol
Rhino

Fast Attack:
6x Ravenwing attack squad with chainswords, sarge with power sword and melta bombs, combat squads
3x Ravenwing Black Knights, sarge with melta bombs and power sword

Heavy Support:
2x Vindicators with Siege Shields
5x Devastators with plasma cannons, sarge with chainsword.

The list runs well, I leave the lib with the devastator squad and run him with divination, Primaris guaranteed and ignore cover if I'm lucky.

Keep command squad with tactical marines, using standard to maximum effect (that salvo 2/4 gak has torn up riptides on its own)

I'm running pretty good against most armies. However I'm getting buttfucked by Tau. Any suggestions that could help?

Tau are an overpowered army. Don't feel bad about losing to them. I find that the only good answer to tau are more plasma shots. it usually doesn't work , because they can match your firepower. Charging them doesn't work because supporting fire is such an unfair rule lol.

"In battle, you're either killing or dying. So don't stop not dying!"

"The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance come to naught in the face of honest human intolerance backed by a sufficient number of guns"

I second these comments and will add this. You don't get better playing people weaker than you. Tau will eventually either lose their OP units and rules, namely Riptides and Overwatch or others will get something to counter it. You will be stronger when it happens as you have actually had to think and learn.

P.S. I am just bitter after repeatedly losing to my Tau friend. Search my few posts to see some interesting anti tau discussions for DA.

I'd lose the powerswords across the board. If you end up in combat with anything worth its salt, the sgt will be dead before he ever gets to strike. Sgts are for forcing challenges to save the rest of your marines for 1 round against a DP, TMC, Abaddon etc. If you get in combat, it's not about killing these things. Toss your krak grenades (for MCs) and try to tarpit as long as possible while other units bearhug objectives.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

The powerswords have done a fair deal of good for me in the past. True they wont hold up against characters, but when they beat down other sargents

TBH I'm not to worried since Nids are my usual 40k army (horus heresy made me get DA) and the codex this weekend looks promising.

It's just freaking annoying seeing some of their absolute bs rules. That being said it is fun to charge a riptide with DW Knights and not lose a single one to overwatch (3+ invulnerable FTW)

I would lose the power swords, and probably the whole ravenwing squad tbh. They can work well with an army built around them, but on their own, especially without special weapons, I feel you are spending points and getting very little in return.

Lose the plasma pistols too. If you want special weapons get a combi-something. They are cheaper and actually do more than the 1 shot you would normally get with the pistol.

Losing all this would give you another 240 points to work with.

Do you need the devastators? They will be shooting the same kind of targets as the vindicators wont they?

You could always drop 2 of the knights and get a landraider for them, give the librarian a bike and a PFG. Make the black knights a ravenwing command squad and get their numbers up to 5. Use the LRC to get the knights to combat, and block all that str 6&7 rubbish the tau will be throwing at you.

Certainly look into a PFG. Vs tau, who will be stripping your cover, it is a great way to survive if they are using plasma.

Do people rate PFG's quite highly?

Yes. They are one of the few things that keep DA competitive against codex SM.

And work well with mechanized, bike and gunline lists.

They are vital when countering things like heldrakes or markerlight tau.

Have a Libby on a bike with a ravenwing command squad....so I'm guessing the PFG is a MUST for him then? I can afford it if I drop the champ and take a standard knight as the Libby has a displaced field so I'd just exchange!

Not necessarily a must, but certainly one of the best options for him.

If you have heldrakes in your area then its one of the best ways to keep your bikes on the table.

Against most ranged fire it won't do much for the command squad, as you already have a 4+ cover save. But against the serious threats it can be a big help. It also helps you go toe to toe in cc against power weapons.

Cool, in that case - to the OP, I'd defo take a PFG. I face a lot of tau, and it sounds like it'll be well worth it's points!
