Tourney on Sunday, thinking of three builds:

Current favourite:

Outer Rim Smuggler, Anti-Pursuit Lasers 29
Ibisam, Push the Limit, Advanced Sensors
Ten Numb, Push the Limit, Advanced Sensors

While 3 ships isn't hugely strong I do enjoy playing with named aces and B-Wings with PTL and Advanced are great- you can focus/target lock and then green move to have no stress. Ten Numb's ability is useful for taking out pesky stealth Fels.

Another option is dropping Ten for a Dagger Squadron pilot with HLC and FCS, which has far less utility. Smuggler is there to block, disrupt TIE swarm, and generally make a nuisance of himself.

Probably more competitive would be

Outer Rim Smuggler, Anti-Pursuit Lasers 29
Dagger Squadron, Advanced Sensors
Dagger Squadron, Advanced Sensors
A-Wing Prototype Pilot

Four ships is strong in the current meta, and this is pretty similar in function but slightly less reliant on two aces. I don't really like A-Wings but an additional ship is supposedly worth two aces.

Other Alternatives:

Trinity
Wedge, Push the Limit, R2, Engine Upgrade
Luke, Push the Limit
Biggs, R2-D2, Stealth Device

Classic trinity build but with slightly more defence on Biggs.

Chewbacca, Expose
Jan Ors
Blue Squadron with Heavy Laser Cannon

Alpha-striking with 5 shots from range, then 6 Shots from Chewie at band 1 in the subsequent brawl could be hilarious.

Alternatively:

Chewbacca, Weapons Engineer, Expose, Gunner
Jan Ors
Kyle Katarn

6 shots at range 1 with Focus and Target locks with a Gunner re-roll in a 360 arc should be hilarious.

This isn't a very good combination. Ibtisam wants to be stressed to maximize her re-roll ability, but the PTL/AS/green sequence means you're always flying without stress. TBH I'm not really sure how to maximize Ibtisam's effectiveness, advanced sensor b-wings really want to be flying stress-free so you have the option to do the focus/roll + k-turn combo.

Ten Numb's ability is useful for taking out pesky stealth Fels.

One big problem here is that you don't have any way to reliably generate crits. If you're trying to maximize his special ability instead of just taking a PS 8 b-wing you want to have marksmanship (or even marksmanship + HLC) or torps to generate lots of crits. As it is you're just getting the occasional crit and forcing Fel to evade every turn (remember, evade tokens still work against Ten's ability), something he's almost always doing anyway.

Another option is dropping Ten for a Dagger Squadron pilot with HLC and FCS, which has far less utility.

IMO the best alternative is blue/dagger with HLC and advanced sensors. Simple and effective, the HLC gives you excellent shooting at all ranges, while advanced sensors guarantees your action every turn and gives you a lot of maneuvering options. FCS is decent, but with low PS you're vulnerable to picking the wrong target and having the locked ship die or get out of your arc. AS + HLC ensures a focused four-dice shot every turn at whoever is available to shoot at, even when you just k-turned to get them into arc.

I don't really like A-Wings but an additional ship is supposedly worth two aces.

IMO if you don't like a-wings put HLCs on the b-wings instead and fly a three-ship list. If you don't like a ship you probably aren't going to be using it very effectively, and you're better off with the two aces that you're confident and practiced with.

Chewbacca, Expose
Jan Ors
Blue Squadron with Heavy Laser Cannon

I don't like this one at all. Expose is worse than useless, you pay four points and an evade die to get less of a damage increase than just using your action to focus instead. It's only possibly worth it if you're able to stack focus + target lock from other sources, but even then it's questionable. Meanwhile Jan is a useless paperweight with her one attack die, and you'd be better off trading her for another HLC b-wing. I'd say you have two choices here:

1) Drop Jan, take the Falcon + marksmanship + gunner and a pair of b-wings.

2) Drop the Falcon to a second HLC b-wing, and give Jan a turret and some upgrades (I like ion turret + squad leader + Chewbacca). I've played this one and it's interesting, you've got a 5-dice HLC every turn and the option to donate Jan's action (at PS 8) to stack TL + focus on the boosted b-wing, or barrel roll a b-wing into a better position once everyone else has moved. And Jan herself is actually contributing something now.

Chewbacca, Weapons Engineer, Expose, Gunner
Jan Ors
Kyle Katarn

This is even worse. Sure, you have one big gun, but it's all your eggs in one basket. The two HWKs and their one attack die each aren't going to win you the game once the Falcon is gone, and even Chewbacca doesn't last all that long against an opponent's entire list. Also, don't forget that Jan's ability only applies to the first shot the ship makes, not the extra attack granted by gunner.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
