I'm a new member. I've been active in 40K for about seven years and WFB for nine years. Over the last three years, I've gravitated more and more towards 40K, mostly because I prefer the background fluff but also because my local club has been gravitating that way. I currently, play Space Wolves and Heresy-era Alpha Legion. In Fantasy, I play Orcs and Goblins.

I've always preferred the 40K novels over those written for the WFB setting. I have yet to purchase the Forge World Horus Heresy Books, but the are on the top of my current list for acquisition -- certainly above Escalation and Stronghold Assault, which have me a bit pissed-off at present.

I am an active member in a great local club in Exeter, UK -- Rygas Roughnecks. We've been running a HH campaign for the last 16 months. We seem to be somewhere in the middle of the HH at present. It is turning out a bit different in our alternative version of the HH: Mortarion killed in Istvaan V, Ultramarines virtually annihilated early on, amongst other anomalies, but it is great fun!

When a primarchs dies though, does he die for real or is it kind of like, "he suffered a fatal wound but he's going to be a-ok for the next battle!"

Mortarion was considered to have perished because the player representing Death Guard in our version of Istvaan V failed to show. The primarch's death was the punishment.

None of the primarchs have made an appearance yet. There has been some talk of fielding one or the other but we're not sure how we'll deal with death of a primarch entirely just yet.
