Hey guys!!
My FLGS can't seem to get any of the battlefront terrain.
Who out there has used model railroad buildings and which scale works best?
It seems that HO is just a bit too big and N is too small, but that's only from pictures, no real world test yet.
Any feedback ?

The problem with railroad buildings is that the scale is not exact. Most companies reference HO at 1:100, but rarely does it actually match up. You are correct about the HO and N scales being too large and too small. I have heard TT is the closest scale, but no dealers around here handle it.

British HO is slightly too big, but if you go and E-bay and look for continental model railway buildings you will find these work quite well.

Look for buildings by Faller, Kibri and and Vollmer.

Here are some 15mm scale building plans you can make out of paper or use to make patterns for heavier materials that I've collected over the years. They pdfs are on my google drive folder

This is a link for scaleable paper model railroad buildings that has popped up on my facebook the last few days so you might want to check it out also

15mm is 1:100th scale
HO scale is 1:86th
N scale is: 1:160th

TT scale is 1:120th. It is the closest model railroad scale you will find to 15mm however, it is not a popular scale (comparatively) so manufactures are rare and product ranges are limited. You will find yourself spending more for TT scale buildings than you would for similar 15mm wargaming buildings. On the upside, it was a popular in Europe (and pretty much only Europe, where they more commonly refer to it as TT gauge) so most of the models you find will be of European buildings.

Between HO and N scale, you should go with HO. Not only are there more offerings, but HO has the advantages of being able to get more figures into the slightly larger buildings and the over-sized windows and doors make it easier to spot miniatures that have been placed inside buildings. So you won't have as many problems forgetting a unit was inside a building when you go to pack up.

I'd suggest you go with HO buildings by a company called Pola. You can find many of their kits on e-bay. They are based off European prototypes.

You can't fix stupid.

This is a toy train I picked up for £2 from a convention. I'm not sure what scale it is but it's fairly close for 15mm, although the carriage and the engine are different scales. It was red and black but I repainted it in a more neutral dark green colour.
