Greetings there!

So I'm brand new to warhammer 40k ( I litterly walked in GW because I thought it sold video games, saw 40k and decieded to do a background check) and the necron army looks really cool, I've taken the time to read the lore and they sound fairly good for new players also. that said I've got a question on what to start with. Based on a ~$170 budget I've been considering three options:

1.)
- 12 necron warriors
- 3 canoptek scarabs
- 5 necron immortals
- Necron lord+Res. orb
- 5 necron lynchguards
- Necron destroyer

2.) - 12 necron warriors
- 3 canoptek scarabs
- 5 necron immortals
- Necron lord+Res. orb
- 5 necron lynchguards
-Canoptek Sypder

3.)
- Necron battle force:
( 20 Necron Warriors; 5 deathmarks; 5 Canoptek Scarab Swarms, and a Ghost Ark)
- Necron lord+ Res. orb

So which of these three seems like the better option? If you have any advice on switching roles( such as turn the deathmarks-> immortals from the battleforce kit) please let me know, I've VERY little army construction knowledge when it comes to 40k :c

I'll Be Back

Welcome!

I too just started necrons this year and have absolutely loved them. I think the Battle force is the best way to get started. Everything in the box plus a kitted out Overlord comes out to around 750 pts which is just enough to have some really fun skirmish type games.

For Deathmarks vs Immortals, I've found that Deathmarks are a lot of fun, rapid fire sniper rifles that wound on 2+ is nothing to sneeze at. Realistically Immortals are probably more useful and competitive. So base that choice on which is more important to you.

Consider buying a Command Barge kit. Buying that and the battle force should still be under $170 and you can build yourself an Overlord AND an Annihilation Barge with it. The Anni barge is SOOO much fun and will really help you have a well rounded force in the beginning.

If you want to start competitive, grab 2 night scythes, 2 annihilation barges and a box of warriors.

Split the the warriors into 2 groups in the flyers 5 or 6 strong each, build both barges as the shooty barges and build the overlords on foot to ride in the flyers.

After upgrades, you'll easily be at 750 and have a very strong core that you can branch out of.

I use ghost arks for an all foot list which isn't nearly as strong as flyer spam, but is still pretty fun.The ghost ark kit is a to paint (and put together to a degree) for a new player.

Out of my Mind

Battle force for sure, and Codex.

If you have the Dex, or the group doesn't mind you playing without it, the grab an Annihilation Barge. You can then just use the Overlord in that Kit and be good to go.

Regardless of which you choose (Deathmarks/Immortals), Plan on taking that to a 10 man when funds allow. I'd also recommend building them with Gauss vs. Tesla for your first unit.

Battleforce and annihilation barge gives a nice 750 points legal army. Recently finished painting my exact that, photos in gallery.

Have then expanded with wraiths, destroyer lord, another barge, praetorians (rods used for cryptek Warrior conversions) more warriors and a night scythe at Christmas, now built and awaiting painting!
