Hi guys, I eventually settled on Ogres (for starters-I'm still looking at you Undead) and got my first couple of battles under my belt. There is one important rules question that came up during my last game.
Do the Ogre Shooters retain the Reload! rule when switching their Heavy Crossbows for Blunderbusses?
My opinion is that they do, since the rulebook (and army list) simply state that their Piercing goes down to 1 and they gain Breath Attack (5) (3 in the rulebook) but does not mention the unit losing the Reload! rule. Then again, as a friend noticed, with only 12" range, they will lose at least 1 round of shooting if they cannot move and shoot.

I also have a small lore question, although I think Ogre lore is scarce. Why are Red Goblins called such? Do they like red as a color or is their skin actually red? (I'd like that for a change - see my sig).

As a footnote, I noticed today that with all the OnG I have from WHFB, I can actually play with both Orcs and Goblins in KoW with ease. It's nice that these models do not go to waste.

They do not lose the Reload rule.

They have a much shorter range, yup, but the hitting on 4+ is fantastic. Good for speed 5" enemies as proper positioning will let the Ogres get two shots (once at 11 or 12 and then again at 1 or 2") which is usually enough to destroy a unit when you've got 15 (let alone 30) breath attack piercing 1.

All the Ogre lore is in the Kings & Legends supplement which has the Ogre army list. I believe Red Goblins are called Red Goblins because the Ogres confused their own Goblin buddies with the enemies and tied red bandannas and sashes on their own Goblin troops.

I agree, 30 attacks are enough to decimate most foes and the unmodifiable 4+ is great. And my own opinion was that if they could move and shoot they'd be a bit overpowered.
The Kings and Legends supplement I haven't read, yet. I'll check it out as soon as I can.
Thanks

Red goblins are termed thus so you know it's okay to use your WFB gnoblar models

Oh, looks like I made another mistake. We've been playing the Ogre Blunderbusses as having a 24" range like the crossbows. It also makes them a lot less useful against Elves with their 6" move...

Remember Breath Attack is a special shooting attack that is 4+ to hit regardless of modifiers with a 12" range.

They should still get one round of shooting in - and don't forget, even Blunderbuss Ogres are excellent in Melee. A troop of Blunderbuss shooters will have their Breath Attack (15) Piercing (1) should wreck any elf unit, and if that elf unit survives (and there's a good chance you'll waver it with that kind of shooting), your Ogre Blunderbuss troop still has 9x Melee 3+ Crushing Strength (1) attacks!

Yep, rectified that for the game I GMed last night between 2 friends. They got I think 1 round of shooting in because they were semi-screened by another unit. I can see them being more effective against slower opponents. And yes, they're meaty in close combat!
