Subject: Lilith or Thagrosh the Messiah?
|

I'm new to Warmachine/Hordes, and this is what I currently have:
- Lylyth, Herald of Everblight Warlock
- Carnivean Heavy Warbeast
- 4 Shredder Lesser Warbeasts
- 5 Blighted Ogrun Warspears
- Thagrosh the Prophet
I love the Thagrosh the Messiah model, and was wanting to buy it and run it. If I decide to do that, I'm going to trade Lylyth and the Prophet in at my local store to do so. If I chose to stick with Lylyth, what would be a good list for me to pick up, and vice versa with the Messiah? In 40k, I liked MC heavy lists. Would a list with multiple Carniveans and Thagrosh the Messiah be viable?
Thanks all!

Looks like you purchased the two-player box and added Thagrosh, right? The good news is that while you probably aren't going to ever need four Shredders in one army, you will often take one or two. They make good little fury batteries or dispensable missiles to chase down pesky solos. The Carnivean is a very solid beast that can fit into many lists. He's not always the best choice for the points, but he's very often a solid choice that will get the job done. That said, you probably won't be taking multiples of the same beast most of the time. A warbeast's animus adds to a caster's spell list so you will often want a varied list. Legion does love their heavy beasts though. pLylyth and eLylyth are both fantastic casters. Thagrosh in either of his forms is fun too. I'm confused by what you mean in trading in your casters for another one. Do they have some kind of used miniatures exchange program? That seems... odd. Edit: Removed some stuff.

Well, by trade in, I meant trade in for in-store credit, haha. Our store has a big stock stock of used models, and they resell them and buy miniatures from players.
Well, let's say that I pickup the Messiah. What would be a good, competitive list with as many heavy beasts as I can field?

Actually, eThagrosh would make full use of all of your current warbeasts. He loves Shredders. Absolutely loves them. With his feat you have a bunch of mini rockets that can fire off 24" away from something and chew it to death. The Carnivean is certainly right at home. With Spiny Growth kicking it up to ARM19, the Carnivean is technically the most directly durable warbeast you can put on the board. Still squishy though and probably won't survive a dedicated heavy killer. That's pretty much all of Legion though.
eThag is a solid beast support caster. His feat is terrifying since it allows even more movement and attacks AFTER everything has already moved and attacked. This does make activation order very important, so keep that in mind.
eThagrosh is also a beast in combat, but keep in mind he is squishy. Arm17 base, even with Spiny Growth kicking it to 19, is pretty common for assassinations to expect to deal with.

Pthags does fine with the warspears and a hvy warbeasts...
Ethags tends to do better with a swarm of warbeasts...
I would stock up on Harriers if you switch to ethags,
I bought an archangel for use with pthags...I run ogrun and the big warbeasts with him to great effect...those style lists have been really competitive for me

I love using warspears with pLylyth. They can smash units afflicted with Parasite, and they go to town on her Feat Turn.
If you're looking for more warbeasts, pick up the plastic heavy kit. If you magnetize it you get three beasts for the price of one. Ravagore has nice synergy with Lylyth as well, but all are great with Thagrosh. If you want to get more milage out of your Shredders, the Beast Mistress is a cheap way to divide your forces and flank with the bitey little missiles...

I would get the Card Box from PP... In it you get alot of the Cards for legion, Including epic Lylyth, and you can use it to prox and test things out
A decent list that will kill alot of things is 50pts Epic Lylyth(I say get the card Box and use the prime version .. You can also use the Warspers, and why not prox the Carnivian, all the warbeast in legion kinda look the same... you can use some greenstuff and make a fire cone out of his mouth if you want...
Epic Lylyth shadow of everblight +5 beast points
Blackfrost shard 5pts
Ravagore 10pts
Ravagore 10pts
Nephilim Bolt Thrower 6pts
Blighted Ogryn Warspears 8pts
Warspear Chieften 2pts
Blighted Nyss Striders 6pts
Blighted Nyss strider Officer & Musician 3pts
Blighted Nyss Shepherd 1pts
Strider Deathstalker 2pts
Strider Deathstalker 2pts
It is a Nightmare if you learn to play it right
