So at the moment I just got back to playing warhammer 40k. I made a army after reading up on what was the "hot list". Come to find out I was 6 months too late with my list. The guys at my shop I started playing at are mostly tau. With that said what could I do to change my list to make it viable vs tau. I dont wanna give up on the necrons because I love how easy they are to paint and love the models.
My list now currently is:

Destroyer lord-weave/mss
2x 5man warrior squads with Night Scythes
6 Wraiths 2x coils
Sorcerer with axe
10 man cultist squad with hand weapons
heldrake with baleflamer

I was getting so frustrated against the list I was playing. I didnt realize how broken tau are until i played them 2 times in a row with 2 different players. Skyfire + intercept just completely wrecked me. Both games I played that day I didnt even get to use my wraiths 1 time either. Between the massive amounts of shots advancing and then the shots they get to shoot before i assault it got really frustrating. Couldnt even hide them in cover cause I was getting spammed with smart missles.

Right now I only own whats above and 3 scarab bases + a Annihilation barge. My plans are to get 2 more Annihilation barges + 12 more wraiths and go from there for higher points games. What do you guys suggest? Im thinking about going to the 1500 point lvl range after this cause 1k isnt just cutting it for me vs the mass shots that tau get. I have half the mind to drop the chaos allies and just pick up tau as allies to be able to have long range fire to support the wraiths before they get in combat. what do you guys thin/k?

I find the necrons are weaker in the 1000-1500 range. I could be playing them wrong, but that's how I feel.


And I would recommend giving their stuff something to shoot at while you advance your wraiths across the board. If your wraiths can get into close combat, you have a much better chance of succeeding.

At 1000 pts I can't see allying anything Or even running two hqs.

I'd definitely say invest in some more annihilation barges, and I'm becoming a fan of the Triarch Stalker with 2 ghost arks moving up the field slowly but surely.

Yeah I figured that much. I think I am going to drop the chaos allies and leave that for a 1850 point list and take 3 annihilation barges in the place of the 280 points freed from the allies. The only problem with that is that I have 1 less scoring unit but I think I can manage to snag last minute objectives with the night scythes as they do that well.
