So therefore:

220 -10X Grey Hunters
-2 Plasma Rifles
-PowerFist
-Rhino
90 -5X Grey Hunters

-1 Storm Shield (They were the first unit I'd ever built, and a friend already "pro-painted"..)
-1 Power weapon
150 -5x Long Fangs
-5 Missile Launchers
-SL has Melta
1k Points even.. Alright, Let'er rip.

5 Grey Hunters with a Flamer should only be 75 points I believe. With that other 15 points you could add another Grey Hunter to that squad or a Plasma pistol to a Thunderwolf Cavalry.

I forgot to mention I gave the 5 man squad a power sword.
Their goal is a simple HQ guard while the Rhino and TWC run down field. Should I drop the PW for another trooper?

Thunderwolf Cavalry, but no Wolf Lord to lead them? HERESY!
If you're taking a Thunderstar, just bite the bullet and spend the points for a kitted out Wolf Lord. Drop the Rune Priest and Dreadnought, maybe shave another 20 points here or there, and taking lord Smashf***er. Wolf Lord with a Thunderwolf, Storm Shield, Thunderhammer, Artificer Armor, and Saga of the Bear. Throw in two Fenrisian Wolves and a Wolftooth Necklace (So you're hitting Daemon Princes on 3+ MAUAHAHAH!) and you've got one of the toughest CC units in the game. Eternal Warrior, something like 6 S10 attacks that always hit on 3s, the only things that can beat him are Ghazkull Thraka on his WAAAGH, the Space Marine Chapter Master equivalent, (Who costs even more than this guy, somehow,) or a Primarch. I've slaughtered Daemon Princes with this guy, barely taking a scratch myself.
Oh, and give the Thunderwolf Cavalry a Power Fist, (Or a Thunder Hammer, just for badassery's sake.) A normal power weapon doesn't do much, considering you've already got Rending.
Remember: As Space Wolves, you can take 2 HQ for one slot. So you can still take 2 HQ choices in this game, if you want to... (Don't know why you would, though.)
Frankly, your overall list looks nothing like what I bring if I want to be competitive, but it looks fun.
Things to watch out for are Airplanes, (Who will rip you a new hole fit for Sla'anesh,) Drop Pods, and S10 weapons. (Unless you add a Wolf Lord with Saga of the Bear, your entire 300 point Thunderwolf squad could easily be wiped out in one turn by a single S10 pie-plate.)

Your entire reply is quite epic, and I'm trying to find the "super-exalt" button. Might be worth buying 1 more box of Thunderwolf to make this happen.

For general tactics on any army, I'd recommend heading over to the 1D4Chan Tactics section for 40k. It's (mostly) unbiased, pretty fair, and useful advice. Pretty funny, too, if you like snark.

I usually always give my GH a power weapon, but I also always give them drop pods. Since you're footslogging, I would recommend another trooper. The more I think about it the more I think the Wolf Lord idea the gentlemen above had is the route I would take.

It's worth mentioning that they put out the artifact in the center is a skyfire nexus. Does that affect anything? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, since my hypothetical HQ is now Lord Facesmash on wolfback, I don't need the 5 troopers, and they might as well sit back and cover the long fangs.

Since very little can stop Facesmash and his Merry Men from holdimg a spot on the map, that will help your AA problem.
This thread has also encouraged me to design my ultimate Deathstar... A Wolf Lord, Thunderwolves, a Rune Priest on a bike with Artificer Armor, a Bike-based Chapter Master (Facesmash's big brother, Headcrush,) and a Librarian on a Bike. The Space Marines are Iron Hands, to give the libby and CM It Will Not Die... Between the Libby and the Rune Priest, you've got great Psychic defense, and 4 Mastery levels all but garunteeing two or three of the following: Rerolls to hit, Feel No Pain/It Will Not Die (Endurance is great because they're all two-wound models,) 4+ universal invulns, -1 S and T on your opponents... Plus, even if you get bad Biomancy rolls, you'll probably get self-buffs making the psykers compete with Facesmash and Headcrush for combat ability. And a buttload of Instant Death weaponry.
It's expensive as hell, but a bunch of fun. (For a friendly game. In competitive play, it just takes one jackass with the Escalation book to ruin your day.)

I'm slightly unsure of what you mean here. If anything I'd have the WolfStar roaming, ravaging, and raping, like they do. If I need AA, I'd drive the rhino straight to the middle and drop troopers for some glancing death action. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, quick question: I don't have my codex on me, just my Quartermaster app. Wolfguard Battle Leaders are 30 points cheaper, only 1 less attack (for 3 total), and can take Thunderwolves. Any reason not to take him as my HQ and pass the savings elsewhere? Automatically Appended Next Post: He can't take Bear Saga is the only thing I can see against it

You also lose WS, a Wound, and one point of Leadership. For thirty points, you're better off with the Lord.
