Hi all,

I'm going for a game at my new FLGS, I have tried to create a list that isn't spammy and it's still fun to play. Could you let me know what you think, this is my first necron list in a while so I'm a bit rusty.

HQ
Destroyer lord MSS SW

TROOPS
9x warriors with a ghost ark
9x warriors with a ghost ark
5x immortals with gauss and a night scythe
5x immortals with gauss and a night scythe

FAST ATTACK
6x wraiths 3 WC 2PC (Destroyer lord will be attached to this unit)
5x scarabs

HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge

If my calculator is right this comes in at 1499.

My thoughts behind this are as follows. Destroyer lord and wraiths seem fun to play in games I have seen before and this will be my first time giving them a run out in this formation.

I'm used to facing a Troop heavy Imperial Guard army and my night scythes and annihilation barges have never let me down against them.

As I don't know who I will be facing I have brought along some scarabs for any armour too strong for the barges.

I'm seem to have a lot of luck (touch wood) with my ghost arks where they grind down the enemy while being pretty durable. It also let's me start with more troops on the table while keeping my warriors alive a little longer.

Immortals should be quite useful as late game objective grabbers who are hard to move and I'm hoping all 4 troop choices make it to the end of the game.

Most of all I want it to be fun for me and my opponent. Do you think there is anything I have missed?

Out of my Mind

Looks great for a starter w/o spamming anything.

I'd drop the Whip Coils for Warriors or more Scarabs, but that's a personal preference.

Current Armies
40k: 15k of Unplayable Necrons
(I miss 7th!)
30k: Imperial Fists
(project for 2025)

Well, the list looks quite good. Ghost Arks are a bit underwhelming. I'd replace them by Night Scythes if you have them. Whip coils are not a must-have since weapons that hurt Wraiths most are initiative 1 anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. So it proved to be an interesting game in the end (I would post in the battle reports thread but as I don't have any pictures I'm not sure it would be worth it although I plan to do this in future), I faced Tau and my first riptide. Wow, I need to find a way to deal with those.

The mission was the scouring and I was lucky enough to place the two 3s and the 4 point objectives. I had placed these around midfield to try and draw my opponent out from behind his aegis line and regretted that once the points values were revealed.

From memory his army was a hammerhead, the afore mentioned riptide, 2 stealth suit squads, 2 pathfinder squads an aegis with a quad gun, an ethereal (sp?) with bodyguards and masses of fire warriors.

I deployed first but he seized the initiative and proceeded to wipe out my scarabs. 3-0.

I wasted my annihilation barges trying to take down the riptide (I thought mass fire might work) and a ghost ark filled with warriors but it only took one wound all game. Next time I think I will use the barges against troops or armour and let my wraiths take on the riptide.

On the subject of wraiths, these were easily the stars of the show, at one point taking only one wound from 48+ shots. I probably should have sent them straight down the centre in hind sight but instead sent them down the left flank rolling up stealth suits, pathfinders and a hammerhead. At the end they set up line breaker and contested an objective at the death setting up my unlikely victory. I will look to bring more of these next time.

My ghost arks survived until turn three and kept their cargo alive. I was overly ambitious with one, and a night scythe and my opponent punished me for that.

My opponent preferred to stay behind his aegis rather than come out for the big objectives and this allowed me to hold a 4 and a 3 uncontested.

By the end:

Tau killed 1 fast attack, while I killed 2

Tau took first blood (and against a fast attack) for 2 pts
I had line breaker for 1 pt.

Tau held 2 2 point objectives while I held a 3 and a 4.

Necrons win 10 - 7.

Next time I want to have more wraiths (I might drop the PCs as they proved useless) and I need better target selection with my barges and night scythes. I also need to get the MSS into play earlier as I think these could prove very useful.

Thanks again for your feedback and I hope it's ok I posted a mini report here.
