Ok..... I made a new Tau list! I know its not that original, but I'm looking for a strong list to bring to tournaments.

Farsight Enclaves + Tau 1850:

Enclaves (main):

HQ:
Farsight
O'vesa

Elites:
Riptide (HBC, SMS, x2 Missile Drones, Target Lock, Velocity Tracker)

Troops:
Crisis Team (3 man, X3 TL Missile Pods)
Crisis Team (1 man, TL Fusion Blaster)
Crisis Team (1 man, TL Fusion Blaster)
Crisis Team (1 man, TL Fusion Blaster)
Crisis Team (1 man, TL Fusion Blaster)
Crisis Team (1 man, TL Fusion Blaster)

Fast Attack:
Tetra Scout Speeders (x2 Tetras, Disruption Pods)

Heavy Support:
Broadside Team (2 man, x2 Early Warning Override, HYMP, x3 Missile Drones)
Broadside Team (2 man, x2 Early Warning Override, HYMP, x3 Missile Drones)

Tau (allies):

HQ:
Commander (CnCN, MSSS, PEN, Iridium, Positional Relay, VRT)

Troops:
Kroot (10 man, 1 hound)
Kroot (10 man, 1 hound)

Tactics are fairly straightforward, Farsight + Buffcommander + O'vesa join Riptide, Kroot outflank.... You get the idea.

What do you guys think? Its for tournament play, so harsh criticism is welcome! I know its not original, but I play in an area where competitive is the name of the game!

Thanks,

Lucarikx

Does your tournament play purge as a secondary?

Only for 1 mission out of 3. All the others are heavily objective based.

Looks good definitely weak on troops I think a good taudar list would kill your troops fast. Apart from that it looks like a great list

Respectfully, you are going about this the completely wrong way. If you want to run a proper O'Vesastar, these things need to happen:

You need at least 3 riptides. O'Vesa, an IA and a HBC. At minimum. Reason being, you must be able to swap which regular riptide joins the star. It varies, sometimes in-game.

If you want to mimic Justin Cook's NOVA-winning list, you'll need a 4th. There's also a player named Brad Vorhees who's had great success running 5 riptides.

As for outfitting them; most should have SMS as ripple firing is your main answer for hordes as well as hiding Jetbikes and crisis suits. EWO is a no-brainer, deploy VT more sparingly. Stims are an absolute luxury and probably don't have a plae in a list with so many. You need the points for scoring.

Speaking of which; never ever give your crisis fusion in a star list. These are your principle scoring! You don't ever want them exposed. Give them a single missile pod if anything to use and then jump back out of LOS. I don't give mine anything at all.

As for other scoring; there are dueling theories on this. Kroot have that outflanking ability; but the terrain circumstances have to be ideal for them to survive. Fire warriors are 6 points cheaper for a unit and 4 models fewer, so are easier to hide.

Support of your riptides is easy: skyrays. They provide AA, an alpha strike ability and high BS marker support. All points that aren't the star, riptides or scoring should be skyrays.

That's pretty much the rub. If you don't like having cowardly troops that do nothing but hide, play a different list.

Cheers and good luck.

Thanks for the advice, The Shrike!

Should I drop the Broadsides for another Riptide? I'm not sure what to drop other than the Tetras to get a Skyray - maybe 1 Crisis suit?

I'll definitely change the suits to Missiles, Fusion does seem like a pretty bad idea in retrospect! If I leave 'em naked, I won't have enough points for another Skyray, any ideas on what I could spend the points on?

I run a very similar list and it works really well. I would split up the tetras into 2 squads and take a ADL with Comms for some awesome precision deep strike.

The homing beacon on the tetras (unlike the space marine version) is always active and can be used after outflanking. So outflank the tetras on first then deepstrike all your crisis suits into position using the homing beacon.

I would keep the fusions also. If your deepstriking using the tetras then fusions can be awesome tank busters

Well at least keep 2 of the crisis with fusions. That was you can use 2 as precision deepstrike tank hunters. If you drop a few drones from the borardsides you should be able to get another riptide and a ADL with comms relay to make your you get all your reserves.

Look, do a what you want, but if you want to compete in tournaments with more than 16 players ditch everything that isn't a riptide, skyray, scoring or buff hq+farsight.
