Hello Dakka Dakka, my local gaming shop is running an escalation league and the point level just escalated to 1000. I usually play Imperial guard/Armoured Battle group, and I wanted to see what people’s opinions are on a quick list I threw together.

Primary detachment-Imperial guard

HQ-Primaris Psyker (will attach to one of the vet squads in the chimeras
Troops- Vet squad w/ chimera, auto cannon, and 3 plasma guns
Vet squad w/ chimera, auto cannon, and 2 plasma guns
Vet squad w/ chimera, auto cannon, and 2 plasma guns
Heavy Support- Hydra

Allied detachment- Armoured Battlegroup
HQ-Company Command Tank w/beast hunter shells, co-ax heavy stubber, and hull lascannon
Troops-Thunderer tank
Total: 1000 points

I think I have most of my bases covered:
Against a lot of small units the Primaris Psyker has his lightning arc psychic power which in addition with all the chimeras and guardsmen should make mincemeat out of light infantry.
Against terminators and space marines, I have 7 plasma guns, 1 ap2 small blast (beast hunter shell), and the ST 10 AP 2 thunderer tank large blast.
Against flyers, the hydra
Flying monstrous creatures, I hope to make them fail their grounding check with weight of fire then instant kill them with the beast hunter shell on the command tank when they are on the ground.
Monstrous creatures on the ground should be countered by the beast hunter shells on the command tank.

If you're only going to use two special weapons in your vet squads you might as well just take pure ABG and avoid paying the psyker tax. With the points you save you can upgrade the Hydra to a Vulture or Vendetta, or swap a vet squad for another tank. And as a nice bonus you'll be able to use the ABG warlord table which has some very nice options (scoring warlord and outflank a Vulture/Vendetta).

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Thank you responding so quickly Peregrine. The only concern with taking Armoured fist vet squads is that they cost more for less.
Unfortunately, I do not own a Vulture/Vendetta but here is a list that I put together using your suggestions.

HQ-
Company Command Tank- Vanquisher, Beast Hunter shells, Lascannon, and coax heavy stubber
Command Tank-Infernus shells

Elite-
Commissar tank- exterminator w/heavy bolter sponsons

Troops-
Armoured Fist vets x9-with Chimera, autocannon, and 2 plasma guns
Armoured Fist vets x8-with Chimera, autocannon, and 2 plasma guns

Heavy Support-
Hydra

Total:1000 points

How does that look?
