40k has never been competitive. If you mean do I want a list that is good? Yes, I want a list that is good and fun to play with big bugs.

I think the Walking tyrant with guard being a stable source of synapse is needed. Having tyrants forced to fly 18 inches means your main source of synapse is gonna have to be spread out. I actually added the warriors to have another source of synapse. I personally dont like the tyranofex. I like the model but don't like the guns he has access to.

I have pretty much any model available but this is what I am looking at running something with lots of big bugs and some solid shooting.

Flyrants only have to move 12" and they are fantastic (though personally I like toxin on them for fighting other MCs). A walking Tyrant is slow easier to kill and a lot more expensive once you've got the Tyrant Guard.

Tfexes are amazing now. The toughest unit in the codex and no more expensive than all the 3+ save MCs.

Warriors are good in Nidzilla spam 4 units with Barbed Stranglers as your troops choice so you can drop the overcosted Tervigons. That's 400 points on troops giving you 320 more points to spend on goodies.

You want an ADL to maximise the benefit of the Venomthropes and help you in turns 1 & 2 when you're largely just taking it in the face.

Then get 270 more points of MCs. 2 Harpies could work but get whatever you want but stay away from the Tervigon.

I do have a list with the 5 flying MCs but I don't think flying makes the Hive Tyrant more survivable then guard. Especially if they have fliers to shoot it down. The tervigons are something that will be sticking around for now. I do like the idea of using warriors for a list which would probably go in the 5x flying MC list. I will have to look over the weapons that a Tyranofex can get but none looked good to me on bs 3.

ADL with fliers? Also don't see you getting 1-2 turns of use out of it either.

Flyrant
-2xT/L devourer
x2

Venomthrope
Venomthrope

3x Warriors
-barbed strangler
x6

Crone
x3

Carnifex
-2xT/L devourer

Don't think of the Tfex as a gun platform think of it as a really tough MC with 2 Templates (so Bs is irrelevant).

Why would you not get a couple of turns use from an ADL? Place it on the half way line and you're golden.

ADL midfield could be useful(Just not to fliers which won't get a cover save. The ADL won't obscurre 25% of the model). I will have to look at points. The 12 inch movement the flying tyrant makes would be gliding and loses the benefits of 6+ to hit correct? I have trouble seeing how a flying tyrant against a good army would survive more then a walking tyrant(and still be able to provide synapse). Might just be the armies I play against locally. Granted I could change the whole list using warriors so synapse isnt an issue at all.

So what do you propose for a list with big bugs with no limitations on models. I have access to any model. I do think the extra troops the tervigon can make is useful and it being a troop as well gives lots of troops for 5/6 missions. 2 is probably too much..(to which I already had planned out to convert but wasn't sure I would use)

I would prob drop a venom and get a Zoan. 1 More Synapse and they have to waste a turn or more just to target it. I have had a Zoan make 18 saves in row. They'll shoot at it before your Terv making the Terv survive a lot longer.

12" movement is swooping. 6s to hit is better than 4 extra wounds. Yes he'll have some skyfire but this is generally limited to 1 or 2 units, as most good AA units don't actually have Skyfire (Broadsides, Warp Spiders, Serpents) or are flyers themselves and you can mitigate the later through good movement.

Personally I'd drop the Tervigon and Gaunts. 4 scoring is enough at this point level. If you drop a Venomthrope too (2 is enough to give the army covrage) you can afford to get an Exocrine and another Dakkafex, and get adrenal on all those fexes to help them get into range quicker.

Likewise dropping the Tyrant Guard and Norn Crown for Wings nets you a Hive Crone and you should have enough to give both Flyrants toxin. That shifts you from 1 FMC and total 6 MCs on the board to 3 FMC and with a total of 8 MCs marching across the table. Then you're asking serious questions of your opponents firepower. He's got a quadgun that can kill your Hive Crone? Cool that's a quad gun not shooting your two Flyrants. He wants to fire his S8 at your warriors. Cool that's S8 firepowernot going at your MCs, remembering if you go first he's got 1 turn of shooting at your FMCs before they hit assault (except in hammer and anvil). From turn 2 you'll be at the ADL firing off 12 S7 Ap2 shots and 36 S6 twin linked shots (with another 24 S6 twin linked shots from the Flyrants).

Its all about threat overload with Nids. Give him too many questions to answer and flood him with targets.

Yeah I don't have that kind of luck.
