So I was reading the Farsight Enclaves book the other day and thought of a pretty deadly combo: since O'vesa is an independent character and so is the missile broadside commander I thought of making a squad of 2 Riptides and 4 Missile Broadsides. I know people have made the O'vesa star competitive but what about the Missile Broadside deathstar? That is 16 twin-linked strength 7 hits, 16 twin-linked strength 5 hits, plus 16 bs 2 strength 7 hits. Oh and two interceptor Riptides with ion accelerators. What do you guys think?

Tau Empire (Farsight Enclaves) 6th edition army list: 2000 points

Commander Farsight (Warlord): 165 points
O’vesa: 305 points

Crisis suit team 3: 3 (Missile pod, Missile pod): 3 Target locks, 2 Gun drones, Bonding knife ritual= 168 points

So are the missile sides and the ripetides together? Because I don't know how you would pull that off. And if i am just overlooking something here, wouldn't that take away from the mobility of the tides since i don't believe the missile sides have jump jets.

Good idea, however the second Riptide and the three missilesides are not ICs, so they cannot join each other. Either two Riptides and a missileside, or one Riptide and four missilesides.

It doesn't matter that the other squads are not independent characters. As long as 1 independent character joins with a unit of non independent characters its fine. Actually you could join an infinite amount of independent characters to the unit as long as they are independent characters and not other units.

The two riptides and 4 shielded missile drones will join as one unit and the 4 missile broadsides and 8 missile drones will join as another unit. Its like the apples go with the apples and the oranges go with the oranges.

That's my point. He wants to take one IC Riptide, one IC broadside, one regular Riptide, and three missilesides to make one large unit.

No, just a squad of 4 broadsides and a separate unit of 2 riptides.

Looks like a pretty strong list

1500pt O'Vesa Star W: 27 D: 2 L: 1
The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)
W:6 D:0 L:1

Yea I like the idea but I think I'm going to be low on troops. Any suggestions?

Well in that case then yes I like the list. Not to cheesy, slightly fluffy, lots of firepower. It however it is pretty much O'Vesa star with out the buffmander and one less riptide.

This is not goin to work, firstly because it's illegal, secondly because it takes away the riptides strengths.

You can attach OVesa. Fine. You can attach Oblatai. Fine. But you cannot attach a second riptide to the broadsides whether it joined O'Vesa first or not. It is illegal.

And even if it were its a bad idea. With all those regular missile drones you are making O'Vesa T4. DUMB. You also remove one of their greatest strengths which is mobility through JSJ and the possibility of line breaker.

The Tau dex has been out for almost a year. You are not going to come up with any combinations anyone else hasn't thought of yet...that are actually good. Not without pairing it with newer dexes as they launch.

That's my bad, I'll own it. But it is not clearly written.

Really?…. I mean I'm just shocked you would say that.

Poorly written? I just posted my list. What you assume I will do with it is a different story.

Look buddy, let's not get in a measuring contest. The way you wrote the introduction to your list sounds like you intended to make a giant deathstar illegally. If I had read the comments more carefully, you cleared it up. My bad. I apologized, there's really no need to rub it in my face when I'm just trying to help you.

As for the list as it is; I think you'd be better off just running the new Tau formation and be done with it.
