Hello from Manchester, UK!
Like many others I've been lurking for a short while and getting back up to speed with tabletop gaming after a 14 year break. The last edition I played was 3rd, it seems a lot of the core mechanics from that edition are still in 6th. Loving the Dakka boards, lots of inspiration for both painting/modelling and gaming - I especially really enjoyed orkyben's "space marines on a budget" thread, and I can see myself doing something similar. I've around 2000pts of marines and orks from back in the day that will be a good starting point for getting back into the hobby.
Looking forward to joining in the discussions!
Cheers,
X3N0

Yeah I'm from 3rd edition too. I've heard a lot about changes in trends concerning vehicles between 5th and 6th, but from a 3rd ed perspective, the glancing hits table is now the penetrating hits table, and the penetrating hits table has disappeared completely. Hull points make it slightly easier to destroy vehicles, but from this perspective it's actually better.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
Yeh, I noticed that about the hull points. I must admit I'm a little bit concerned about the durability of vehicles in 6th coming from 3rd. I'll need to play a few games to see how my vehicles fare, but I've read that you need to stick a lot of armour on the table to spread your opponents shooting in the first few rounds or your lonely predator will eat 5 lascannons and go pop in the first turn.
Are there any threads discussing the strengths/weaknesses of old 3rd ed vehicles against their 6th ed counterparts? Particularly interested in how vindicators, triple las predators and dreadnoughts fare in 6th. Is it better in 6th to just stock up on devastators rather than take a tankhunter pred/dread?

Same boat as me. I'm 15 ish years out of the game from mostly 2e but ended in 3e. I'm playing Fantasy for the first time before I really jump into 40k as that's what my LGS is running a league for.
The good news is after the switch to 3e most of the changes haven't been so drastic, so if you were primarily in 3e, it should be a fairly smooth transition.
