Last question for a while...I promise.

So I hear when playing tournaments you get to bring two lists as long as they the same faction? Is this true?

Depends on the tournament. But very often it's two or three lists. Often it's a requirement that each list has to be played at least once.

Also common is that it character restricted, which means that you cannot have the same characters (FA: C) in different lists.

Check out the Steamroller rules at http://privateerpress.com/organized-play/steamroller-tournaments - the links to the rules pdfs are at the bottom of the page. These are more or less on par with the rulebook in terms of "things I need to play Warmachine" (especially because casual games nearly always use the scenarios in there, both because it's practice for tournaments and because they're much better than the ones in the rulebook). The army list section is on the first page.

You should read the Steamroller rules in more detail but, like moreorlessrelevant says, the default format is two lists where you can't take anything with FA:C on its card in more than one list (though you can take different versions of the same character, so you could take Prime Eiryss in one list and Epic Eiryss in the other list).

It's worth noting that the FA:C restriction applies to your warcasters too (though you can have different levels of caster). This means that you can have your awesome EHaley list- but you better get proficient with at least one other caster too.

Slightly incorrect: Different versions of the same caster count against character restrictions. Same with epic incarnations of different characters, like Eiryss.

Not in the base SR2014 rules.

"army lists
Players must bring two copies of their army list(s), complete
with point costs. Army list point totals cannot exceed the
point size chosen for the game and cannot be more than 2
points under that point size (including warjack/warbeast
points). For example, a 50-point Kaelyssa army must include
55 to 57 points of models.

Players can bring a second army list if they choose. All lists
must be led by warcasters or warlocks from the same faction.
Mercenary players can use different contracts or Theme
Forces for their lists. Minion players can use different pacts
or Theme Forces for their lists. Players cannot include the
same version of a model or unit with FA C in more than one
list. The original and epic incarnation(s) of a character do not
count as the same version of a model."

Huh, changed from previous incarnations of character restriction then. My bad.

It wasn't like that in SR2013 either

Having epic and prime versions count as the same model was also an optional part of the rules back then too.
