Like the title says I am considering looking at a Necron army because the flavor and concept sounds pretty neat to me and it's something "different" in the local meta (mostly Marines of the spiky and non-spiky persuasion, some Tau, I think one person is switching to Dark Eldar). Plus I have the idea to make my dynasty some kind of rogue group so I can fight anyone or anything, including other Necrons, without feeling like I'm breaking the fluff. The way I envision it is that the head of my dynasty (Phaeron?) had his circuits scrambled a bit and is borderline psychotic, and wants to see everyone and everything else crushed under his metal heel (including other dynasties, as they need to be shown his greatness); if he were human I'd imagine him executing people for the slightest imagined insult. Basically Galvatron in post-movie G1 Transformers (after he was found by Cyclonus in the lava pools), not quite all there but still arrogant and powerful and wanting domination. Haven't come up with a name/backstory yet as this idea is merely in gestation.

Considering something that won't break the bank as I tend to not have much surplus funds each month, is the following list any good or should I go back to the drawing board? The Necron Battleforce seems like it's really good value for what you get in it, so this is mostly using that with some extras (I'm trying to also prepare a shopping list so I know what it's going to cost me so I can save appropriately). However I don't know much about Necrons in 6th edition as I've only skimmed through the Codex briefly; I do know that they don't have a 6th edition Codex (yet?) but their 5E Codex was likely designed with 6th in mind. Last I remember with Necrons (from way back) if you reduced them to like 20% or something you would automatically win the game... is that gone? I don't recall seeing it in the codex.

Points may or may not be accurate, I am using a web-based army builder to experiment

HQ
Overlord w/Res Orb, Warscythe, Command Barge - 210 points (This loadout is only because that seems to be what the model included in the Command Barge has equipped, and I like to stay WYSIWYG)

TROOPS
10x Necron Warriors w/Ghost Ark - 245
10x Necron Warriors w/Ghost Ark - 245

FAST ATTACK
3x Necron Destroyers - 120

HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihilation Barge - 90
Annihilation Barge - 90

TOTAL: 1,000

I could also do the following instead (again mostly using the Battleforce):

HQ
Overlord w/Staff, Res Orb, Command Barge - 200

TROOPS
10x Necron Warriors w/Ghost Ark - 245
10x Necron Warriors - 130 (On foot)
5x Necron Immortals w/Night Scythe - 185

FAST ATTACK
3x Tomb Blades - 60

HEAVY
Annihilation Barge - 90
Annihilation Barge - 90

TOTAL: 1,000

I could also do this, which would cost me about $50 more but seems to be overall better:

List #3

HQ
Necron Overlord w/Warscythe, Phase Shifter, Command Barge - 225

TROOPS
10x Warriors w/Night Scythe - 230
10x Warriors w/Night Scythe - 230

FAST ATTACK
3x Wraiths, 1 w/Whip Coils - 115

HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihilation Barge - 90
Annihilation Barge - 90

TOTAL: 980

This one would also let me use the Ghost Ark that comes with the Battleforce as a Doomsday Ark at higher points values. So without knowing much of anything about Necrons, is this a start in the right direction or completely off base?
