yep, local journeyman league gonna start up and i thought i would be a good time to start a new army. so im going from Khador and all their glory to piggies .... and i have no idea what im doing.

friend of my bought me lord carver, and i just put an order in for the war hog, and 2 gun boars according the the journey man starter box for piggies.

so what im asking is: what should i get next? how do i play them? tactics?

also how should i paint them? i love to paint, and i want to make some blue robin babes. i was thinking of making their armor reminiscent of khador and just have them with white fur. what do you guys think? thoughts, ideas, your own piggies would be cool to see?

A) I think that the idea of White-furred (or albino!) War Pigs is pretty awesome and would love to see it.

B) Hmm...I'm not quite sure what to suggest you add for a journeyman league. I basically just jumped in and bought a 50 point army. So, here are some things that you will want.

1. Brigands (possibly the first addition once you go beyond battle box)
2. Slaughterhousers (AMAZING. No, really, I love these guys) They can work really well with the gun boars because the boars can do a little damage to a big guy/unit of multi box models, and then the SHs tidy things up.
3. Targ. He also works well with the Gun Boars because he can give them a second shot with Ancillary attack.
4. Another War Hog.
5. I would also suggest Rorsh and Brine, but I still don't have them, so I'm not sure how good they actually are.

I would probably start with the brigands because Carver makes them better and they are good...well, ok, decent, at both shooting and combat.

Edit: oh, actually, at 15 points it will just be Targ since the Battlebox is...I wanna say 13?...points and you won't easily be able to drop in the brigands. If I remember right; it's been a little while, sorry.

i was thinking of the winter Argus but more piglety with the white paint job. and it would contrast with red more than the brown would

the battle box ist 12 pts and im one of those silly guys that likes to have as many points as possible... so my 3pt options are:

1.full unit of bone grinders (im not sure what to think about these guys, they don't seem to hit hard and for carver do much of anything)

2. or one farrow razor back crew, and with both farrow and carvers list lets them advance deploy i think i might go with them. but what do you guys think?

I do like the razor back, but it's not exactly super competitive. One's not bad, but don't ever buy two (like I did...oops). The gun boars are much better for shooting blasts downrange.

Overall, the bone grinders aren't going to do too much for Carver, but they are definitely a good unit. I would suggest that you go with them since they will be more useful down the road. Unless you're a completionist and want everything, in which case I like the razorback better at 15 points.

Sweet, thx spyguyyoda. i think i will go with the razorback for now and save the grinders for later when i have a caster that would use them more. n why are the razorbacks not that competitive? range 14 pow 13 3" aoe that starts on the feil advance deployed with dig in seam like a fantastic option to me lolz but then again i never win any way

my thoughts:
alten ashley : amazing if you are fighting war beasts, but if not he becomes a tad situational, but is a cheep great shot.

Thurllg: immune to spells, so no buffing, but messes up war-machine/jack bad, and can heal its self and hurt a caster while with in 7? nice. and a solo with 3 nice magical attacks including reach? not bad. just doesn't seam like he would last for to long. people just b picking him off.

Gudrun the wanderer: silly silly Gudrun... um the knock down abilities seam odd, but getting to fully re-heal once per game after death is amazing. just im getting the starter set and none of that has ways of getting him to stand back up lol. but maybe he doesn't really have to have help, i don't know. thoughts?

Saxon orrik: i will definitely get him later bc of his reconnaissance power. but i need warrior models before he really becomes usefull. thought his skinning knife would be handy for my own furry management. uggg i don't know

Viktor pendrake: i really want to like this guys. no idea why. giving other models more damage against war-beasts is cool but i still need a warrior model to do that lol and he has all the rules for fighting war-beasts one on one. im thinking his chain bola, and lucky bow would be great with the gun boar letting him knock down or at least get a nice plink with his bow that gets a re roll.

Lanyssa Ryssyl: i also really like her. she looks cool and the hunters mark would be soooo nice; 11 charge on a war hog anyone? how about a 14 charge on a road hog? she also has a nice magic shooting attack with a stationary crit. and then getting a spell and extra damage to help shut down legion of ever blight is always welcome in my book XD.

Totem Hunter: coming from khador and our speed 4... wtf omfg this guy is sooooo fast. spd 7 + jump+ sprint +prey? wtf and he has a reach weapon? with out help he gets a 17" threat range if im doing it right.

what do you guys think? im thinking eather Lanyssa or Totem hunter to jump me up to 15pts then targ,brigands, razorboars, rorsh & brine.

Well, like I said, they're ok, but you'd generally rather have the gun boar for blasts. Unless you just wanna spam blasts, in which case, blast away!

As far as the others, I think Gudrun and Totem Hunter are the best by far. Gudrun is an amazing tarpit unit. Totem hunter will kill enemy solos (and occasionally even light beasts) pretty easily. I'm not sure that TH is legal in the Thornfall Alliance, but I honestly can't remember for sure, and that is (randomly) the only Warmahodes book I own that's not right next to me so I can't double check.

The only other one I really want to try Viktor, because any guy who wears glasses while murderating warbeasts is OK in my book.

Lanyssa also seems good, but kind of situational outside of anti-legion lists.
