So I have been playing more and have discovered in my absence, 50 has become the new 35.

I had originally paired down my armies to stuff I was just using and now find I need more.

I'm fine on jacks, but looking to get another unit of infantry.

Right now, I'm basically stuck with a min unit of forgeguard, min nyss hunters, risen, gun mages, and full and a half precussor knights..

While I am looking for spares to flesh the other two out (damn repackaging), I'm thinking of either High shields or Boomhowler. My casters are typically Ashlynn or Fiona.

Highshields seem to have the edge as they are fairly survivable and have the added bonus of being insane with the UA as shooting at a target that has been hit by Fiona's Affliction.

Just curious if anyone has experience with them.

Also curious, what are the qualifying units to act as Cultists for Fiona. Sea Dog Crew, Press Gangers, Deck Gun, Bloody Bradigan?

I also found out that 50 is the new 35 when I came back just recently. Honestly, I greatly prefer it. Certain casters simply cannot get enough support in their army for a proper showing at 35, while others are brokenly good at 35 but are more even-handed at 50. Mercs tended to be a primary casualty of the 35-point range.

As far as what to take... I'm not sure. I honestly don't know enough about Mercenaries to give proper advice.

Yeah, Mercs were tough at 35. I found that most missions with them were instantly devolved to "caster kill or no win".

However that could just be a function of me liking Highborn and the fact that while they can be tough to hit, once hit they are made of paper.

Haha, yeah you will likely still be in that mindset. Oh! Have you looked at the Galleon? Pretty much every merc list ever uses it, and for good reason. It's not inexpensive and not mandatory, but it is a big boon to many merc armies.
