Subject: 2 Necron lists. Which do you prefer and why?
|
 |
Wicked Canoptek Wraith
|
These lists will mainly be up against chaos marines with heldrakes and a flying daemon princes
List 1)
Destroyer lord with weave and mindshackles
6x wraiths with 5x whips 1x caster
15x warriors with a night scythe
15x warriors with a night scythe
8x warriors with a ghost ark
2x Annihalation barges
Aegis defence with the lascannon
List 2
Overlord with orb /mind shackles /weave
5x lords with 5xweaves 5x mindshackles
5x cryteks no upgrades
15 warriors in night scythe
15 warriors in night scythe
10 warriors in ghost ark
I have 65 points spare for this list not sure yet what that goes on. I like the amount of staff of lights i have so dont really wana change that aspect 33 ap3 shots seems decent.
Any advice to amending the lists would be appreciated. But which list do you think is better and why?

1st list looks better. Only thing I would change is to trim some warriors for a chronotek. On that Aegis Lascannon, it can be brutal (since you can reroll hit, wound, penetrate, whatever)

Lovely idea but have no overlord in that list to unlock the royal court Automatically Appended Next Post: Any one else Automatically Appended Next Post:

So is it worth removing the d lord to get an overlord and a chronotek?

Definitely the first list. I like the wraiths and D-lord.
Although it's an interesting concept, your second list is not very competitive because your royal court squad is super expensive and will get blown to bits before it does anything. They have no method of transport besides foot slogging, giving the enemy plenty of chances to shoot at you. With a 2+ and no invul saves for your lords at 60 points a model for your lords and only a 3+ With no invul for your cryptek a at 25 PPM, that is a very squishy unit. With one high strength AP2 large blast, you're opponent could kill 350+ points and maybe even instant kill your overlord for a total of a 500+ point large blast.
Now that's only if your unlucky. Most likely your opponent will roll at least one 1 on his to wound, maybe two and then you will get all of you reanimation rolls to get half your squad back. However if your opponent has two vindicators or equivalent, you are almost surely out the entire squad with no reanimation rolls.

Your second list is FAR superior to your first list. Considering who you've stated your main opponents are, it's a no brainier, but that Wraith squad is going to take all the heat for turn 1 and 2. If you Deep Strike the Wraith unit to avoid that, then your opponent will only have to deal with it for 1/2 the game. I've found that most Flying MCs will assault that Wraith unit before you get to. This either removes the DLord from combat first turn, or he dies, leaving you with Wraiths anyways.
The Royal Court squad is really only missing a Veil. The biggest problem your going to have with that unit is the 12" range. Even with the Veil, you've got more than enough shots to kill everything within 12" so the rest will be wasted. If your group is one of those that extends the kill zone based on the range of one weapon, then get a Destructek staff. You're going to benefit a lot more by taking 2-3 Warscythes in there. This will go a long way in addition to the MSS to avoid being swept and losing the whole unit. If you really want to make it fun, free up the points for Obyron and put him in there.
If you like the first list, then drop the DLord for an Overlord and just take 2 units of Wraiths. That will give access to a court where you should be able to drop a Warrior from each flying squad for a Cryptek.

3 cryteks ( 1 stormtek woth lightning field)
15 warriors in scythe
15 warriors ins scythe
10 warriors
2 annihilation barges

Trayzn is not a character I recommend if you're just starting out. He's good, but you really have know how to use him. He's another Not-so-great CC character is a shooting army.
You've got the Court but they're all in the one Unit. What you'll find is that if/when they get him down, that unit has a very good chance of being swept, taking out Trazyns options for coming back.
If you want to use Trazyn, then take a 2nd Lord with an Orb and put him in the 10 man Warrior squad in the back, and put that unit in Reserve.
You're not going to get as much out of those MSS as you hope, and w/o Scythes, you're almost depending on them to win combats.

Normally, the first list is far better IMO, but considering you'll be facing lots of flyers, I'd recommend the second list.

List 1)
Destroyer lord with weave and mindshackles
6x wraiths with 5x whips 1x caster
15x warriors with a night scythe
15x warriors with a night scythe
8x warriors with a ghost ark
2x Annihalation barges
Aegis defence with the lascannon
I'd take this list since it has a good cc unit. The caster is not worth the points and the synergy between the ground troops (Warriors in Ghostark) and Aegis is questionable.
