Returning to the game after a long period away from it, considering starting up a new force based on what I have available to me in terms of models + rulebook. Looking to get involved in the online community for a dearly beloved game, but I think I might have stumbled onto a problem with the way i'm building my army.

Is it acceptable to use standard CSM as stand-ins for plague marines, or vice versa?

What follows is what I can get if I max out what I have in terms of wargear...

CSM - 6th.

Chaos Lord w/ Termie Armour - 150 points
Plague Marines x 9 (+1 plague Champion) - 270 points
Chaos Cultists x 9 (+1 cultist champion) - 68 points
Chaos Cultists x 9 (+1 cultist champion) - 68 points

And that's with marks of nurgle and autoguns and HQ wargear all over the place, so it comes out at about 560. Regardless, that plague marine contingent comes armed with a plasma gun and is pretty much something of an immovable force...

I was kind of hoping you guys would have some ideas for how I could boost my army up to 1000...

It's your hobby so if you want to use normal CSM's as Nurgle Marines, go right ahead. Although I would recommend somehow converting them to make them look like Nurgle marines, through Greenstuff or even a simple paintjob.

Ofcourse if you just want to proxy them, as long as it is clear which squad is Nurgle CSM, and your opponent agrees, it's no problem proxying miniatures until you get Nurgle Marines or conversions.

Aaaaw, I saw death guard and got my hopes up for another preheresy comrade. Welcome to dakka. Mind the carpet.

I totally endorse using standard CSM plastics for plague marines, I furthermore highly endorse converting them to look the part and more personalized. You're paying top dollar for GW, may as well take the time to make it your own.

Welcome!

I'll agree with Low_K and Zuul. By all means, feel free. Just make sure they at least look Nurgle-like.

Welcome Dakka ded_ard.

My Death Guard army has about 70 plague marines - all of them converted from standard space marine and CSM models. So the answer to that question is a definite yes.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
