It is in Cleveland TN, Atlanta to Kentucky is basically shut down. I live out in the sticks and from what my friends are telling me Cleveland has been abandoned and they are now filming the walking dead there for the day.

It would have been past the one foot line if the day had started out at around 15 degrees.

Believe it or not, that's not actually a joke. Not entirely regular, but I remember quite clearly, a while back (must be going over ten years now), back in elementary school around May or June (I went to a year-round school), it snowing quite aggressively. Of course, why I remeber it so clearly was because that was during the period where we went to 'outdoor school' for a week, which was exactly what it sounded like.

Trust me, you do not want to sleep in a teepee when it's -30.

Same in my area. We are expecting temperatures in the low 80'sºF (around 26ºC) this week and are facing major drought conditions. We only had a few weeks of cold weather this "winter" and have been experiencing spring and summer temperatures through much of December and January.

I still remember January '99 when our snow banks were about 10-12+ feet high & buried all the STOP signs at our intersection... on top of it still crapping down like crazy and the windchill pushing the temps to -43...
But our schools stayed open! (actually, they only closed the next day because the province declared a state of emergency for our area, shut everything down and put a curfew in place.)

This amount may not seem like much but in the south all winter storm budgets were trashed years ago because didn't need them. We barely maintain a budget for salting the roads now. It is a big deal to us because we haven't had this much snow since 1993 and we STILL talk about that. The south is not built to handle it we don't buy tires for snow at all. We had 300 wrecks in chattanooga from two weeks ago when it snowed 4 inches. Of course now no one is having wrecks because all of those drivers are car pooling with drivers that know to slow down.

There's a reason why it's called "global" warming and not "local" warming.

Also a reason its now claled climate change and not global warming (because the idea of the earth as a whole getting warmer was apparently too difficult for some people to grasp).

Well, technically they're two different phenomenon (often related though) climate change is the change in global climate patterns apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards, attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels

and global warming is the increasing temperature of the earth due to greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, water vapour, nitrous oxide, ozone) trapping and reflecting thermal radiation. Now what this means to media and society I have no idea (although I imagine there's a lot of

misinformation floating around). I don't understand why there is so much confusion over climate science anyone with a tenth grade education should at least know the basics by now.

You have truly over estimated the American ability to swallow stupid and regurgitate it on demand and with little ability to correct it.

They are usually good about keeping the northway clear, but it's been snowing steadily since dawn here, and just picked up a bit in the last hour or so. I'm in the capital region, and it looks like we are south of the worst of it. Hopefully you aren't headed too far upstate. Drive safe, the south does not have a monopoly on bad winter drivers.

Was heading to Oneonta from the city. Took five and a half hours. I made it though! 87 wasn't fun, but it was manageable.

Man, I wish we had that little snow here in NJ. it's falling just as fast as it can be cleaned up. My university has snow piled 8 feet and higher everywhere that isn't a necessary road or walkway. Frankly, we've run out of room for it. Freezing rain and snow is forecasted for the next ~5 hours, as it has been for the last few nights running.

It's been a hellish winter here in Philly this year.. every week there's been a new snow storm. almost half my vacation days for the year are gone now :( We just had over a foot yesterday, then it rained, then we got 3 more inches over night just because the storm wanted to say F U to everyone.

My girlfriend is from Wisconsin, and she thinks I'm a baby whenever I complain about it. Her mom says they had highs below zero for the whole week.

Wisconsin is a hellish land where only people live there is to hibernate. It reached -43 degrees up in Sheboygan during the last snow blitz that hit the South.
