Hi All,

I've been having a lot of trouble lately getting a competitive list together. It is most due to lack of experience and partly due to lack of models. I've just converted a Bran Redmaw model at the suggestion of one of the staff at the local GW so thought I'd give it a go. I'll likely be playing against DE so any tips as well would be great appreciated.

HQ:

Redmaw - 210
RP (Termie, 2*Div, Master of Runes) - 170
RP (Runic, 2*Div, Master of Runes) - 170

Elites:

WG (3*Termie, 1*AC), (2*Power, 2*combi plasma) - 175

Troops:

10 GH (2*flame) + Rhino - 185
10 GH (2*Melta) + Rhino - 190
10 GH (2*Plasma, wolf standard) - 170
5 GH (1*flame) - 75

Heavy support:
LF (4*ML) - 115
LF (4*ML) - 115
LF (1*ML, 2*HB) + Razor (TL HB) - 120

Fortification:
1* Quad gun - 50

My original plan was as follows:

- Redmaw plus plasma squad plus 1 combi wolfguard deploy into forward cover via infiltrate using the patient hunter rule (hopefully to make use of Bran's stealth rule too)
- Have two squads of ML toting LFs each with a termie WG and a RP, one with the quad gun (hoping for ignores cover and/or prescience on at least one RP, both would be awesome)
- The third LF squad is to deploy further forward with the WG with AC
- Rhino squad with meltas head forward to do some quick tank busting
- Second rhino moves to attack an objective in enemy's deployment
- Final 5man GH squad plus WG (2nd combi, could change for combi flamer) stay in reserves and walk on later to hold an objective in my deployment zone.

I have changed the list nearly every time I've played to try different set-up but haven't had a huge amount of success. I'm not convinced I should even be running Bran like this and wondered if I'd do better with two GH squads outflanking with saga of hunter on a wolf priest and a WG battle leader. I'm also not 100% if Bran can be used in this way in combination with the GH squad he gives patient hunter to.

Ideally, I could do with some drop pods and cyclone missiles. Sadly I don't have these so I'm working with what I've got atm. On the other hand I do have the following that I could switch in:

Land raider crusader/redeem
Blood claws (15)
Wolf priest
All the usual wolf HQs
1 dread (TL LC, ML, CC or MM)
3 TWC
Various WG

The Rune Priests need to be different in some way.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

Hi FinkleLord, I figured one in runic armor and one in terminator armor (one with runic sword another with runic axe, respectively) should be enough to satisfy the "leaders of the pack" rule. Unless I've misunderstood, this rule does not extend to BRB psychic powers.

On a side note I've prepared an alternative list as I realised I was dropping a lot of point on the HQs and think it may be best that I leave Bran at home until I get some fenrisian wolf packs.

List 2:

HQ:
Wolf Priest - (Hunter saga, runic armor) - 130
RP - (Termie/axe, 2*Div) - 120
RP - (Runic/sword, 2*Div) - 120

Elites:
WG (3*Termie, 1*AC), (2*Power, 1*combi plasma 1*combi flamer) - 175

Troops:
15 BC (2*flame, 1*power axe) - 240
10 GH (2*flame, wolf standard) + Rhino - 195
10 GH (2*Melta, wolf standard) + Rhino - 200
10 GH (2*Plasma, wolf standard) - 170

Heavy support:
LF (4*ML) - 115
LF (4*ML) - 115
LF (1*ML, 2*HB) + Razor (TL HB) - 120

Fortification:
1* Quad gun - 50

Ideally, I'll have the BCs outflank with the wolf priest and the combi flamer WG that should also make good use of the preferred enemy rule. The plasma squad will form up as a gun-line with the combi plasma WG. with the two rhino squads pushing forward. Then the LFs will be set up with the rune priests as before.

From what I can see at the start of page 19 of the stronghold assault book it seems to be completely acceptable to take a gun emplacement on it's own without (for example) a defense line.
