Trudging through the FOW rules and was wondering if the Field of Fire rules mean anything at all to the play of the game. For example is their any real advantage in having a turret or turntable? Is their any difference in the way turreted tanks and turntabled guns behave and play to assault guns and non-turntabled guns? Further why would anyone turn their turret to face a target they wanted to shoot at?

Perhaps to allow the tank to take a front shot next turn from something in front of it?

This is coming from someone who is a fan of the relic COH games. Anyone familiar with those games would know all about the advantages of turrets and turntables in those games. Guessing the advantages were similar in real life?

You don't count as moving if you only turn on your turntable/turret.

I'll admit it can be niche but you can ruin assault guns with an assault from the flanks.

Some tanks also have slow traverse. Meaning they have to choose between a penalty to hit or firing only 1 shot if they have enemies to the side or rear.

Tanks with fixed guns also care very much about it. It means they won't get full RoF against enemies in their flanks because they have to move to get a shot off.

Ok I see. Forgive my noobiness. Rules can get a bit mixed up in your head and confusing when you're learning them. Read the section in the rules but it must have gone over my head. Now I can see the sentence explaining this in the rule book. Silly me.
