The list (IA12 assault brigade) is to take part in a small tournament in which players are randomly assigned a ally of equal worth (in points terms 1000pt). They will then play a series of knockout games in which table and scenario will be randomly assigned. The opponents (or allies) that I know of will consist of; eldar, Orks, necrons, chaos daemons, IG, BA, CSM mono-slaanesh, CSM nurgle with Servants of decay allied...most of the players in the group are friendly and play for fun but there are some serious beards in the group and it is semi-competitive. I have a large selection of units (rough riders, tanks, infantry ect) to choose from and any advice wouldn't go amiss. Here is the list:
HQ
CCS (no upgrades..to man the quad gun)
Troops
Platoon a: 1pcs, 2xinf, 4xflamers, 1 vox, 1xpowerfist
Platoon b: (same as above)
Heavy
1xmedusa, BB shells, camo,
1xbasilisk
1x quadlauncher
Fortification
aegis with quad gun
Comes in at 1000pts...i should say that I can still take advantage of the unstoppable advance due to the combined armies points coming in at 2000. I intend on throwing one platoon after another at the enemy whilst maintaining fire from the heavy section. One platoon will form meat shield duty depending on availability of allies.

Or using siege list;
1 commissar, camo, powerfist, melta bombs
Platoon: 1 pcs x2 flamers, 4xinfantry 4xflamers
2x combat engineers, melta, demo
3x medusa platforms, bb shells
1 aegis, quad
The idea is the same as above, random allies, same tourny.. is it a 'beardy' list?? I love pieplating but I can understand why it is hated. Also fighting potential screamerstar, Ork battlewagon rush, helldrake spam....maybe rapiers?? More field artillery? I can't plan for every eventuality so though do what I do best. St10 pies of doom, meatshielded.

how about......
(HQ) Quartermaster Cadre - 75 pts
(T) PCS w/ (2) melta - 70 pts
(Tsub) Inf Squad - 70 pts
(Tsub) Inf Squad - 70 pts = 210 pts
(T) PCS w/ (2) flamer - 60 pts
(Tsub) Inf Squad - 70 pts
(Tsub) Inf Squad - 70 pts = 200 pts
(HS) Field Arty Battery w/ (3) heavy quad, (1) heavy mortar - 220 pts
(HS) Field Arty Battery w/ (3) heavy quad, (1) heavy mortar - 220 pts
(Fort) Skyshield Landing Pad - 75 pts
1000 pts
Army is primarily set up for wiping out massed infantry and pinning down MEQ/TEQ, while still killing them with sheer weight of fire. Small deathstars can be bombarded with ease. The Skyshield gives everything that nice 4++, coupled with their t7 and feel no pain from the quarter master, makes the whole thing very hard to kill. Can still make use of troop respawn. It lacks anti-air/heavy armor, but you can always rely on a teammate for that.

Hi MrPerkins
Thanks for your post! Interested in how you are running those mortars thudd in combo? Do you drop the mortar down first in order to give yourself more chance with the barrage rules (ie cover more space and more options with the placement of smaller templates)??
I know the utility of melta in pcs but I always find that it underperforms compared to say melta bombs on squad leaders. The bs 3 is a pain although your bound to get one hit with two.
I do own a skyshield and have also knocked up a sandbagged bunker of equal size that I use if the opposition are amenable and I have got a similar list.
How do you find the medusa's for you? Direct fire is a pain but the last two games I fought (both against the Ork player with battlewagon rush) they were gold.
Cheers for your input.

Yes, the mortar comes down first for the larger area barrage.
The medusa's are great as long as there isn't a wealth of terrain on the field. I prefer the earthshakers because of the indirect fire, plus in my 2K I have 2 forward command tanks that can spot for my earthshakers and heavy mortars. The lack of barrage on the medusa is a big drawback for me.
One things you could do then would be to give each PCS 2 flamers and 1 melta bomb. Gives you more template cover and give each unit an answer to heavy armor

Here is the list I run at 2K.....
I run the quartermaster in my CCS mostly because I love the model and the lore, but the added survivability to the warlord is nice. The big combo of this list though is the Inquisitor/artillery. It allows for extremely accurate bombardment (especially for death stars rolling around with a psychic). The Vanquishers are there to spot for the earthshakers/heavy mortars and drop enemy armor. The BS 4 is great and that spotting rule helps to mitigate areas of the board where the enemy can hide units. The infantry pushes forward with the commissar while the engineers hang back and watch for deep strikers near the hydra. The CCS either hangs out on the pad with the field arty or with the heavy guns, wherever they may be.
Death Korps Army Group 2000
Primary Detachment - Death Korps Assault Regiment
(HQ) CCS w/ (2) plasma gun, momento mori, quartermaster - 170 pts
(E) Hydra Flak Tank - 75 pts

I really like that 2000pts.
In the end I came a close third in the tourney and the winner was a ork-daemons combo (battlewagon, screamerstar+soulgrider+skullcannon??) pretty nasty to play. Got a tad annoyed by the moans at me using medusa's but that's life in 40k! I was actually going to rock the inquisitor with psycholum but they changed the rules a week before to picking from just one list. I ended up running a siege list for a 1000pts that was (forgive my format I'm using a phone due to puter problems):
1 commissar+meltabombs+camocloak
One pcs x2flamers, 3xinf+flamers all with meltabombs
1 engineer squad+melta+demo
3x thudd (sep units)
3x medusa
1 skyshield!
It was a siege reg and I guess you can figure the manly tactics of the castle and charge of doom! I ended up getting allied with a armoured battalion and we did well on most games just problems arose with objectives (as to be expected). We had fun and one of our chaos players raged when his raptors and chaos lord mishaped on deepstrike. So I placed them in a acid pit within rage of two medusa's and a demolisher. He raged about forgeworld after fielding an army with two 50pt cultist squads, raptors, helldrake, oblits, from the crimson slaughter list. Goon.
I'm rocking a 2000pt list this weekend for a large trench game in cornwall against a chaos player who is house ruling that he can assault from a dreadclaw (it's a fun game and he's cool and it's for fun)...suggestions for a 2000pt list please? I really want to rock my 45 roughriders.... Automatically Appended Next Post: And that's exactly how I use my two vanquisher but only brought one with me! No basilisks this time but pretty much got everything else including a malc defender and a annihilator (much use may they be!)

Wow that what I not expected when I posted the list
I use the assault list because grenadiers are troop choice, carcass shell for engineers and heavy mortar (and is in the heavy not elite). Second, I play most of the time in city fight like table. Transforming this list from assault to siege list will cause me little trouble because I need to remove a grenadier squad or engineer with the hades drill.

So the parameters of the game this Friday are a 6x4 (but possibly larger...I think he's measured his pub tables) and we are fighting lengthways down the board. the terrain on the table will consist of three trench lines (I don't have my trench boards with me so it will be paper and blu-tack..high class) but I do have some sweet razor wire, bunkers and emplacements with me. The idea is that it's a assault by the DkoK on a CSM force that's rolling down their trenches. As stated before its going to be 2000pts (friendly game so non-competitive as far as we can be in a pub full of beer) and will be main force assault brigade and allied siege. I do have my old inquisition force in storage in cornwall but I'd rather stick to just the DkoK. He will be assaulting out of dreadclaws in spirit with siege of vraks. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Reckon four objectives (two gun pits, two trench lines) alongside the unstoppable advance ob. I have a fairly large compliment of troops, tanks (only one vanq with me) and want to include a malcador defender and roughriders....thanks guys for advice!
