So, I'm wanting to get into Warmahordes again, Last time dident go so well, We started it, Played a handfull of matches, My friends all said they realy enhjoyed it, then they went back to Warhammer 40k and never touched Warmachine again.. Anyways, I want to get into it again and give it another try (I have asked on my gaming group's facebook page if anyone is intrested in trying it again) And I looked at this new faction, Convergence of Cyriss. And they look pretty cool, So I was curious, Are they good?

Define good. Fun to play? Absolutely. Cool models? I think so.

Competitive? Jury is still out, but I've had some pretty good luck with them.

Check my blog (below) for some models and rundown of a few games.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I loved my CoC army.

Went 14-0 before I had to sell them off.

They are one of the toughest armies out there and one of the best all jack armies.

Like all armies, Convergence is competitive.

They are new though, so their competitive status will be tempered by that. Both by there not yet being a solid amount of tactical knowledge to assess, both for how to play them and how to beat them, and not all models are out yet.

CoC is very much a clockwork army, both in fluff and in gameplay. They are heavily reliant on proper activation order and a thorough knowledge of in-army synergy. They are penalized more heavily than any other army for improper play, but work extremely well with proper strategy.

Dang but this turned into a ridiculous wall of text. Sorry guys!

I'll weigh in as someone who started with CoC and still hasn't gotten much experience with the game. I love them! There's just so much synergy flying around everywhere (quite literally in the case of Syntherion) and pretty much every unit is in the list to help make some other unit better or for a specific tactical purpose. I mean that is kind of how Warmachine plays anyway, but with CoC it feels like we don't have any one standout unit. No Bronzeback or Stormwall or whatever (unless you count the corollary). Everything is just solidly good, sits in its place, and does its job.

Plus being able to screw with Menoth (oh, all my ranged weapons are magical. Thanks optifex!) and Cryx (Hello Mr. Bane Thrall, meet mr. Ground Pounder template and his twin brother! Oh, sorry mr Gaspy 2. I don't have any living models in my army. No Excarnate trick for you this game!) brings a smile to my face.

Also the fact your entire army is made of constructs makes many many things in this game very sad (non-living...not undead... that's a lot of effects that just don't work on you), also your jacks have no cortexes so that cancels out some really nasty effects. Also MAT and RAT debuffs do nothing to them unless they can tag your caster.

There's also many playstyles combined within the faction. The one evreybody has already seen is Syntherion with lots of jacks, but Axis with enigma founderies and all the jam ever looks like it could be fun. Lucant makes gunlines just cry with medium based infantry. Directrix prime axiom drag assassination shenanigans or servitor puncture spam with Backlash could be fun skews and she is solid in a regular list too. Aurora actually makes some of our infantry choices brutal with transference (I'm looking at you Eradicators) even though she's supposed to be the clockwork angel caster.

So I guess the short version is that I really love them. They do all kinds of cool stuff. I can see them being quite competitive but there are some things out there that will counter us hard (anything that messes with constructs or focus allocation makes us even sadder than other factions). As a result I expect we'll be about "middle of the pack" coming down to whether your opponent has teched against CoC or not. Plus even someone as inexperienced as me can tell you will need to put in some serious skill investment to get the good out of this army.

I was digging through the piles of stuff at the gaming club and managed to find my old Cygnar army I brought back when we tried Warmachine, but that I never had tme to fully assemble before my friends quit. But from our facebook group I got intrest from one of the new guys, Plus one of my friends is intrested in playing it again (Atleast ocasionally) so for now I think I'm going to build on the Cygnar and then if we stick to the game for a while I'l probably start a Cyriss army later ^_^

I just wanna say,, I found my Warmachine mini rulebook from the two player starter box and I had forgotten how tiny it is! I'm used to the Warhammer and Warhammer 40k rulebooks and mini rulebooks and they are so thick in comparison!
