The way they write it, it sounds like everyone just has it by default, if they have two pistols they can shoot both. Is this true or is it a special rule only certain people have? I was planing to swap out my IG sergeant's ccw for a bolt pistol, and let him keep his laspistol.

Yep, everyone has Gunslinger by default.

That's cool, that actually means I have to go back and change up some of my list.

You must remember that it still only applies to units that have two pistols or that can take two pistols. If a unit does not have the option for that the rule makes no difference

Forest hunter sept ~3500
guardians of the covenant 4th company ~ 6000

I don't see how forgetting that only units that have two pistols are allowed to fire two pistols could ever cause an inconvenience, really.

I've seen it be very common for people to make two mistakes with this. The first is assuming (for no reason I can fathom) that only characters have access to the Gunslinger rule. The second is assuming that the Gunslinger rule works with a pistol and an assault weapon, rather than just two pistols.

Might be because part of the Pistol description says it's like an assault weapon (meaning that you can fire it then assault).

Not that I'm saying that's what it means, because it obviously doesn't, but eh. Other than Seraphim, what units can even take dual pistols except characters?

Anyone that can swap a weapon (for example, a Close combat weapon) for a pistol for x points. So sergeants, mostly. I think.

But those are characters. I asked about anyone who's not a character.

Maybe some Blood Angels elites?

If power swords werent so cool id also give my officers two pistols.

I think this affects imperium officers more than anything else though.

SoB Seraphim have the rule, as their basic loadout is with 2 bolt pistols. In the WD army list they had to have a special rule allowing them to shoot 2 pistols, instead of a twin linked one like in the Witch Hunters book.

DA company vets can take 2 pistols. As can standard codex assault marines,

Forest hunter sept ~3500
guardians of the covenant 4th company ~ 6000

Chosen.

Berzerkers.

Plague Marines.

Raptors.

A couple of guys in each of these squads can exchange pistol or CCW for plasma pistol.

Though nobody does it anyway. Everyone except Berzerkers can take Plasma Guns for the same cost, and nobody takes Berzerkers at all.

Yes one of the Sisters of Battle strengths with the Seraphim squad is equip dual flamers then activate the Shred Act of Faith and let dual hand flamers spout the good stuff!

Sorry, dual 'hand' flamers.

I will apologise for skim reading, but to be fair, it's kind of hard to see guard sergeants as characters given they're so damn squishy

As you say, it's mostly characters and the like in the IG codex. Nothin in Tau or Farsight, 4th Ed DA Assault Sergeants (so relevant, I know) could take a combat shield without sacrificing their Bolt Pistol, as could Company Veterans.

So, out of the codecises in front of me, it's pretty much just characters and veterans.

I'm sorry I don't know what you mean. Storm bolters are not helpful as they are not pistols and deathwing can't have pistols in any way shape or form. so.....
