Plan.

Deploy both strike squads in rhinos and Librarian just behind them, put assassin either side where most danger is.

Drop Mordrak into cover close by enemy, hopefully he can distract and hold up as many big guns as possible whilst the 2 rhinos roll up the table. Drop Terminators wherever and cause as much damage as pos. Bobs your uncle.

Trying to make this as competitive as possible but keeping it simple, so as much advice as possible would be fantastic. My first ever list for 40k so apologies for any mistakes.

Thanks guys

Quick thing - There should be 5 Ghost Knights with Mordrak if that squad is gonna be 400 points total.

Some things you might want to consider:

Take away the summoning on your Librarian, it's not as great in practice as it looks on paper. Replace it with quicksilver and drop a bunch of halberds from at least one strike squad, you can make one of them initiative 10 with the libby while also saving yourself 50 points.

Use those points to stick a pair of psycannons and a daemon hammer (on the justicar) in each squad for some dakka and close range AP2. That may be over by a few points but you can always drop a few more strike squad halberds or sanctuary and the halberd from the librarian (sword gives him a better invuln in CC anyway and once again you have quicksilver).

Mordrak lists are fun, just be careful that you don't put him in too dangerous a spot when he comes in!

Hope this helps!

The Twilight Zone

Your list is actually 35 points over.

I strongly second dropping the halbreds from the strikes. Force swords are just fine most of the time. Only model that needs a halberd is the justicar, in case he gets into a challenge. Never give the justicar a hammer, as he can be challenged out and killed. If you want, take a hammer in the unit for damage, but it is not required.

I would take two psycannons for each GKSS squad, so you have some AT shooting. Combined with the psybolt ammo, this squad will be very deadly at close range. GK are shooty first and formost, with a strong melee backup.

Don't run your libby alone. Put him with either the terminators or ghost knights. Consider might of titan, as it stacks with hammerhand and makes punching through armor easy. With quicksilver, you don't need halbreds in the libby's unit. Take swords for some extra melee tanking. Also consider servo skulls if your planning deep striking, they will also help deny deployment to good positions for your vindicare.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I'd say definitely drop the halberds, strikes aren't good enough close combat troops to warrant them. I'd also drop sanctuary and shrouding on the librarian, not very useful imho, then whack him in with the termies and get I10 S6 termies

3000pts 30 wins 2 draws 12 loses

5000pts 13 wins 1 draws 9 losses

WoC "where the points don't matter" 6 wins 0 draws 4 losses

Things my Giant has pocketed for later in AoS: 1 zombie, 2 spirit hosts, 1 banshee, 1 zombie dragon, assorted phoenix guard

I enjoy being able to make use of the second attack on the justicar with the hammer, it seems pointless to hide it on a random guy with 1A. Halberds are better against ork nobs and the like, but many characters are T5 with 2+ and have fists or unwieldy weapons (I play against Typhus all the time lol). You can at least have a good shot at ID'ing them with 2-3 attacks that wound on a 2+ rather than trying to ID them with the force weapon while hoping to wound on 5's and then have them fail a 2+ save. I just don't think you should never put hammers on justicars, they have their uses. Halberd is a safe choice though, just keep him away from anything rocking a good armor save.

I agree with everything else, particularly putting the libby in a squad and taking might of titan.

some good info here. I have nothing to add really but am happy i checked it out.

I once played against a power list that attached Draigo to the Mordrak bomb and geez-louise that unit was near unkillable. not sure if it is even legal...

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

Draigo is an independent character so there's no reason he can't be attached to Modrak's unit, he just wouldn't be able to take any Paladins with him it would have to be Mordrak's ghost knights that filled out the squad. Still a great way to drop him in lol.

Good, though I don't know if you need 2 hammers.

Librarian – 150

Good solid HQ unit but requires good planning to use wisely (especialy as 10% of your entire lists points)

ELITE
Vindicare Assassin – 145

Not nearly as good as he looks on paper. I would strongly suggest not taking the Vindicare at anything under 2000 points. He will (most likely) be killed long before he does anything particularly usefull.

TROOPS
Grey Knights Strike Squad

These guys .. Halberds are a waste of points on them. All swords + 1 Daemonhammer (NOT on the Justicar) + Halberd on the Justicar only is better. And you really, really want Psycannons on these guys. Always max out your Psycannons, especially if you're spending the points on Psybolt ammo (otherwise, using it on just stormbolters is rather meh at best).

Terminator squad
(3 halberds & 2 hammers)

Terminators are .. ok .. but for the points cost I'd rather put in another Strike Squad.

TRANSPORT

Good call. Your strikes need some way to get upfield without being shot up before they can do anything.
