Relatively new player here. Want to have a balanced (but shooty and tricky) Imperial Fists army. I acquired the majority of my units through a big batch purchase on eBay, a few random eBay buys, and regular purchases for the rest.

I think my army needs something extra. What do you guys think? This is a list of all units available for fielding.

Terminator Chaplain (w/ Storm Bolter)
Librarian (regular armor)

Elites
Terminator Assault Squad (4x Hammer/Shield, 1x Twin Lightning Claws)
Terminator Squad (4x Storm bolter / power fist, 1x heavy flamer / power fist)

Scout Squad (Sarge w/ plasma pistol, power weapon, and teleport homer, 2x sniper rifle, 1x bolter, 1x heavy bolted) - all w/ camp cloaks

Are you planning on a 3rd company list or just a standard IF list?


Basically theres a few ways you can go with imperial fists chapter tactics.

You can do a standard IF army which is extremely balanced at all aspects but is expected to use at least 1 vindicator.

You can do lysander's 3rd company list from the suppliment which use's centaurian devestators and tac marines on foot.

Or you can do the Pedro cantors sternguard list, which is usually a drop pod list focused on alpha strike.

Standard IF. My main concern used to be tank busting, but the addition of my devastator squad took care of that.

Now I'm worried I don't have enough speed to take objectives in objective games.

Bikes are extremely good in 6ED and are great at grabbing objectives. I have ten bikes in my DA army and plan on buying more.

Standard IF list would probably go somthing like this then.

HQ
Chapter master/w Relic artificer armor, grav pistol, burning blade.
Chaplain/w melta bombs, auspex.
Honor guard squad/w 5 honor guard, 1 champion/w extra ccw.
(2-3 axes, rest swords)
LRR/w multi-melta

Troops
10 scouts/w ccw, bolt pistols, melta bomb (outflanking)
10 marines/w melta gun in rhino, combi melta on serg
10 marines/w flamer in rhino, combi flamer on serg
5 scouts/w bolters, melta bomb, in land speeder storm/w flamer

Heavy
Vindicator
Vindicator
Devestator squad/w 4 lazcannons





This is the core list. You can mix and match additional units as you want.

Thanks for the advice. The scout bike squad is something I haven't considered before. Might be worth a look!

Also, a really quick question: there is a local tourney with a 1,000 point limit. I'm struggling with my list. One problem is that Darnath Lysander, while a total monster, is 230 pts. That's roughly a quarter of my points gone in one unit. Makes me very hesitant, especially since, with the new codex, I don't need him for bolted drill.

I'm thinking I may be better server going with my Terminator Chaplain instead. Paired with a deep-striking Terminator Assault Squad, they can do serious damage.

If I went with Lysander, all I can afford with my remaining points is a scout unit, 10 tac marines w/ razorback, terminator assault squad, and a 5-man devastator squad.....along with whatever 70 points can buy me.

However, with a Terminator Chaplain, I could have all of the above, but with 180 points to spare.....which I could convert into either a Stormtalon, another tactical squad, or a combination of a 5-man assault squad and a dreadnought.

Thoughts?
