One thing is often not mentioned in tutorials that a beginner may not have realised:
It is important to not have too much paint on the brush, especially while highlighting. If the brush has too much paint on paint will pour out of the brush on to the mini (especially if you have thinned down the paint). This is not what you want, you want the paint to only be on the areas you have touched.
Further, overloading the brush with paint will reduce how sharp the point of brush is, making it easier to touch the wrong areas of the mini and harder to keep the paint to where you want it.
