Hi,
after years of playing DoW2 and loving the fluff, I always wanted to play 40k Tabletop and here I am finnaly. I always had the problem that Warhammer is soo expensiv + I have noone to play + I can't paint. But now I decided I will just get started

I will buy some Eldar units, but i am not exactly sure what to buy, and where to buy. I live in Germany so shiping costs are a problem from what I have seen.

I tend towards the Eldar Battleforce box, I have seen on Wayland I would get free shiping at the moment. I would rather buy from Darksphere (4€ cheaper) but then I would have to pay 20€ shipping. So I guess my Question would be: any other Ideas where I could buy from / does darksphere do free shiping sometimes?

My biggest question would be: What do I need besides Models? Paint, Brushes, Tools? Where do I get them from, and are there some kind of starter pack you would recommendate to me?

Oh, and another question^^: how far is your Gamesworkshop away? I think the closest to me is 45min with the train :/

Thanks to everyone who can help me get started (nice emoticons btw )

Hey! Welcome to Dakka Dakka!

Tools to complete the models are a big thing, Starting out an xacto knife, good plastic model glue with a fine point applicator or metal tip for the small parts plus it's more precise in application. Brushes, fine detail, a rounded dry brush, a standard brush are about all you need at first. A good light source to help you paint the detail, to see the true colors, so maybe a smallish bendy light. Plastic sprue clippers, those are great but you don't absolutely need them at first just use your xacto knife/model knife. Maybe small modelling files, but the knife can scrape seam lines away very well, I guess files are more for the metal figures which seem to be rare now.
Maybe a GW tray, a small bowl for water to clean your brushes, rubber bands to hold the tanks and larger models together as the glue dries, a very good primer, and a clear coat spray like the GW kind to help keep your painted models in better shape. Store your brushes clean, and the brush towards the ceiling. Maybe a brush cleaner to help preserve your brushes and to keep the shape.

Tweezers and toothpicks for loads of things like applying the decals. Oh and some basing sand/rocks or whatever you are using to base, along with super glue.
These things are a must for me.

Again, welcome aboard!!! Very glad to have you amongst us!!

Hey Lichtbringer, welcome to Dakka!

Have you considered ordering from the GW website or is that something you don't want to do? Because afaik they do free shipping if you buy products for 15€ or more. But then again Wayland is probably cheaper. Another option would be to buy models of ebay. That would probably be the cheapest way of getting some models.
To save money on the tools suggested by Kelly502 (which you should definetly get) I'd suggest buying most of them in shops other than GW since most of their hobby tools are overpriced.

And to answer your last question, my local GW is within 20 minutes walking distance (but I live in the UK where there is a GW in pretty much every town).

Anyway, hope you have a great time here!
