Hi all,

I've just started playing with a couple of friends. I've gone with Eldar and they've gone Necron and Grey Knights. I had a stab at a starting my army today and I would like to know if it could be improved? e.g have I wasted points that could be better spent on something else.

HQ

Farseer on jetbike 115pts

Troops

5x Dire avengers - with Wave serpent ( Holo fields / Twin linked scatter lasers ) 200pts
5x Dire avengers - with Wave serpent ( Holo fields / Twin linked scatter lasers ) 200pts
5x Dire avengers - with Wave serpent ( Holo fields / Twin linked scatter lasers ) 200pts
6x Guardian Jetbike Squadron with 2x Shuriken Cannons 122pts

Heavy Support

Wraithlord 2x Brightlance and 2x flamers 160pts

Total = 997 pts

Thanks.

Looks pretty solid to me. it seems you have all your bases covered.

1 side note: When you roll for powers, don't go for Prescience AND Guide. In this list, the Wraithlord is your only unit that will make full use of either. In this case, I would roll twice on telepathy and take prescience. Depending on who my enemy was, I might instead roll on Runes of Fate until I hit a bad power, and then swap it out for guide and move on to Telepathy.

Yeah your list looks great. To add to what extreme said, I would almost always roll once on runes of fate, just to see if you snag doom or fortune. Then, you can take guide if you get anything else(for the wraithlord). Telepathy is really good for your list-try to get invisibility but hallucination and psychic shriek are also amazing.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Thanks again. I really had given no thought to what powers would be the best way forward. This is all really good stuff.

I would split your 6 man JB squad into 2 groups of 3. Keep them in reserve as long as possible. Keep them out of sight and away from combat unless the situation is dire. Then when the final turn is near, move them 36"-48" to take, or contest objectives. You will also score linebreaker quite often with them played this way.

The strength of jetbikes is moving flat out 36", if you are pausing to shoot you are not moving much. The true effectiveness lies in the mobility.

If you want to run a large squad of bikes I HIGHLY recommend a 50 point warlock for a shrouded bike pack with 2+ jink cover. Watch out for tau though. However this does depend of whether you are being aggressive or not.

Not sure what kind of positioning you are going to have with your farseer, I assume hes traveling with the bikes?
Might be better off behind the Wraithlords giving guide/prescience and forewarning.

Always roll once on eldar table, 2 times on divination. If you are running an aggressive farseer no need for prescience other than the 2 shuri cannons.

Hope that helps mate!

It is the rule in war, if ten times the enemy's strength, surround them; if five times, attack them; if double, be able to divide them; if equal, engage them; if fewer, be able to evade them; if weaker, be able to avoid them. - Sun Tzu

Thanks, im really glad I decided to post on here as the advice I've been getting is golden to a new player like myself. So many of these things hadn't crossed my mind. Truth be told I cant decide which warlord table to roll on I was thinking strategic. Is that wise?

No, never use BRB traits, 9/10 suck, use eldar table or even better the eldar supplement traits are all fantastic (if you don't own supplement you can find WL traits online).

@ Arbiter. Im sorry but you really dont know how to pick your powers. There is only 2 powers worth taking from eldar

Fortune
Guide

The divination table is far superior, this isnt even a question, its blatantly obvious. How long have you been playing eldar??

Hi all and again thanks for the input and the warm welcome.

@CorpseCommander - Arbiter was giving me some help with the Warlord traits not Psychic powers. I think there may have been a little confusion there.

Taking all the advice on board that you've given me I plan to roll on the Eldar table and hopefully I'll get myself a doom or fortune, if that fails I'll take guide as my fall back power. I'll take the remaining rolls on divination and hopefully luck out there as well.

I'll take a roll on the Eldar warlord table as suggested. I'll leave rolling on the eldar supplement warlord table for now,, the other guys I'm playing with don't have their own specific warlord table, its our first game so I'll go easy on them .

If we don't get too bogged down with the rules I'll try and keep notes and do a little bat rep write up. The extra feedback from doing that would really help me and also probably show up the rules we got wrong.

Thanks again

I do humbly apologize. I was in a bad mood that morning so I may have been a bit brash.

IMO cut points on WJBs and squeeze a Wraithknight in there. Now no "man" gets left behind!

...that big sanction stamp of APPROVAL means it's OFFICIAL. No, I don't have to ask you for permission. D-cannons win games.
