So I airbrushed my stugs today...and then proceeded to wash one without first giving it a coat of gloss, and I tried to freehand a Wehrmacht cross on another...are these two stugs ruined and in need of a re-spray or can I solve the problems somehow?

Get some painters tape. It is a clean release tape and shouldn't damage the paint job. Mask off the area you want for the Wermacht cross and you should be able to get the crisp, clean edges you are looking for. The wash looks fine as is and should look fine on the table. I agree with the Colonel though. A little darker will really help make the details pop.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

A little silver drybrush on the tracks to show rubbed metal, more on the machine gun.

Then lots of inkwash, carefully drybrush mud over the cross also, then ink it lightly to muddy up the white. Your freehand work is not the best as you suspect, but good enough. If the cross is mud splattered its irregularities will appear part of the mire and look more authentic.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Good weathering can conceal a multitude of sins.

Its amazing what a wash will do.

I would do some heavy drybrushing of metal on the tracks and some of the mechanical areas, followed by a black or brown wash over the entire vehicle.

Also, paint the stock of the MG42 brown and the barrel with metal. Picking out little details like that can make a huge difference.

You've got a good base to work on.

By no means are these stugs my finished models!! I was purely asking if the streaky mud wash and awful freehand were fixable. In the end I've decided to re=spray them as there are a few other annoying mistakes I made with the airbrush.
