My friend and myself have decided to give 40k a try and needless to say we are sucked in. I am still pretty new to the game and would love some help so I can utterly destroy him and his annoying Tau army.
I am an Eldar player myself and I am having trouble figuring out what I should bring to our first 1000pt bout. I have all of the following units and was wondering what would be the best list to bring.

HQ:
Eldrad
Avatar
Illic nightspear
farseer
spirit seer
warlock

Troops:
2 guardian units
1 dire avenger set w/exarch
9 jetbikes w/ shuriken canon upgrades
2 wave serpents
1 set of rangers

Fast Attack:
1 set of swooping hawks w/exarch
10 warp spider w/ exarch
1 crimson hunter / wraith fighter
1 vyper

Elites:
10 wraith blades
5 wraith guard
5 striking scopions w/exarch
5 fire dragons w/ exarch

Heavey Support:
1 support battery
1 fire prism
3 war walkers
3 wraith lords
1 wraithknight

I know its a lot an I think that's my problem is that I have so many choices. Any help is appreciated thanks all!

You have all of the best units and then some. It is easy to make a really strong list to beat tau.

Spiritseer

2 squads of 11 guardians in wave serpents w/scatter lasers
3 jetbikes

6 swooping hawks, 1 exarch

3 war walkers with 2 scatter lasers each
Fire prism.

Comes to 1k on the nose. Use the serpent shields to nuke pathfinders or other markerlights early. Hawks will drop in and take out any non battlesuit infantry with the grenades and lasblasters. Prism can snipe suits, armor or infantry as needed. Walkers provide mass dakka
