I just wanting some opinions on which HQ to take with this lot:


HQ Option 1:

Hive Tyrant w/ AG TS
Lash Whip and Bonesword The Miasma Cannon
Shreddershard beetles


HQ Option 2:

Tyranid Prime w/ AG / TS / Regen
The Miasma Cannon & The Reaper of Obliterax

Elites;
1x Zoey
1x Zoey

Troops:
20x Gants (10 w/ Devourers)
20x Gants (10 w/ Devourers)
20x Gants (vanilla)

Heavy:
2x Biovores


Or should I tone down HQ choices and go more Gants or Maybe 'Stealers?

You could save 10 points by dropping the Miasma Cannon for a TL devourer. I have found it very hard to line up a situation where the double template Flyrant is worth it. I have no problems, however finding spots where a devourer is worth it.

This one is more Egregious. If you are going to drop 45 points to get The Reaper of Obliterax, You should outfit you second set of arms with Scything talons for the extra attack.

Also, The Reaper gives you +1 Strength and Shred which essentially nullifies the need for TS.

Lastly, you probably aren't going to want to run the Tyranid Prime solo. He will be joined to a unit. So unless you give the unit you plan to join him with Adrenal glans, he shouldn't have them either. You only get fleet if the whole unit has fleet.

I generally find Regen to be a poor use of points, but in a 750 list on a Tyranids prime, it seems like a good call.

Personally, I would probably run the Tyranid Prime like this:
Tyranid Prime (Regen, BS, ST, Fleshhooks) or
Tyranid Prime (Regen, Reaper of Obliterax, ST)

Overall, I think he is a better choice for a Swarm list like you are looking at running. He is more dependable synapse. Personally, I would lose on squad of Gaunts, and replace it with a squad of Gargoyles, and then congaline them back far enough that you can slingshot your Prime into assault.

I think overall, you are headed in the right direction.

I would run something more like this:
Tyranid Prime
- LW/BS, Miasma Cannon
3 Warriors
- LW/BS, Toxin sacs
Zoanthrope
Venomthrope
20 Terms (x3)
2 Biovores
Total: 744

Put the prime in the warrior squad to give them all the ws/bs bonus. With the extra synapse, switch one zoanthrope for a venomthrope, which will save points and give your entire army +2 to cover if positioned correctly. Have the other zoanthrope babysit the biovores. You could play around points wise with this if you want. Drop some of the warrior upgrades for more warriors or another biovore.

I was thinking of running 1 synapse creature with each other group, keeping warriors and devilgaunts close. Dropping spore mines all around the board (and objectives if applicable) in the first turn to give additional targets and annoyance.
