So recently some friends and I gave the Carnage mission a try. I used to love this mission back in 3rd edition, and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, our 4th player had to call it a night before we started due to illness, so we played the mission with 3 players (the 3rd set up in between the 2 corner deployments, so that all zones remained 24" away.

Since we were changing the mission, we decided to tweak it one step further. We decided to determine the turn order each and every game turn. This added such a layer of complexity, and prevented the last turn holder from just sitting back and waiting until turn 5 before they made a move toward the objective. This made for an extremely exciting game because if one player over committed against another, that player could wind up with 2 consecutive turns and throw a lot of payback out. Possession of the objective changed hands 3 times before the 7th turn, and the game ended with all three players in base to base with the objective. The Chaos Marine player held it at the end of turn 5, I held it at the end of turn 6, and we all held it at the end of the game thanks to a timely Everliving roll, giving the Necron player a 1 point victory thanks to line breaker, first blood, and slay the warlord.

It was so fun, we will likely start doing this with our regular 2-player games, just to see how it turns out (along with stealing the initiative each turn). We will definitely keep doing it for Carnage missions.
