Hey all,

I'm trying to retool my Word Bearer army for 1850 for an upcoming tournament, and I'd like your opinion on the list.  I've played with modified versions of this and had some success.

HQ - Lieutennant, MoCU, Crozius, bolt pistol, Strength - 101

El - 2 Obliterators - 140

T - 9 CSM, MoCU, icon, bp+ccw, 2 flamers, Champ, pfist - 180
Rhino, smoke, armor - 58
9 CSM, MoCU, icon, bp+ccw, 2 meltaguns, Champ, pfist - 183
Rhino, smoke, armor - 58
9 CSM, MoCU, icon, bolters, Infiltrate, plasma gun, heavy bolter, Champ, pfist - 205
5 CSM, MoCU, missile launcher - 85
5 CSM, MoCU, missile launcher - 85
8 Bloodletters - 208
9 Daemonettes - 135
7 Plaguebearers - 112
7 Flamers - 161

Hv - Chaos Dreadnought, twin-las, missile launcher, smoke, armor, searchlight - 144

Total - 1850

I like having 9 troops choices, though it's hard to fit in in 1850, and I like having all 4 god's demons.  I know Pb's aren't that great, but they're useful against horde armies.  I want to put in Furies, but it's them or one of my anti-tank units, and I think I'll need my anti-tank units.

Anyway, critiques?

hq and elite choices are fine

all 9 man squads should be changed into 8 the extra marine wont help with leadership and morale, 1 marine isn't enough to sway a battle

reduce the daemonettes to 8 as well, drop the plague bearers and flamers to 6(screamers might be better)

drop the missile on the dread as if you get blood rage your dread is not effective tl-las and ccw is the best combination, drop the searchlight as well

use the extra points to upgrade the flamers in the rhino squad to meltaguns and make the missile squads 6 strong w/plasma guns

you can round out your lieutenant(doesn't he have to be a lord to have a the accursed crozius)giving him speed or something

the daemons are costing you alot of points and cheaper variations(beasts not troops for khorne and tzeentch) might be better

bolstering your anti-tank squads and making more will help you immensely

Thanks for the comments! Why switch flamers to meltaguns, though? And typically, I never give my missile squads plasma guns - they're usually shooting at tanks, usually outside of 24", so the points go to waste. Plague bearers are 7 cause it's a sacred number, and I don't like small cc squads. I've played around with putting with the flamers at 6, though I just worry that I'm giving up too many shots (I usually play them at full 9 strength).

I like squads of 9 - they have to kill 5 before they're a non-scoring unit, rather than 4, and it can make a difference, though you're right in that one marine can't really sway a battle. Also, any model designated a dark apostle can take a crozius, so lord or lieutennant. Only one crozius/apostle per army, though.

Are there any armies out there that might give this one a hard time? I'm looking at all the "popular" styles right now - Stealer/Zilla Nids, IW, Drop Pods, MechTau, etc, but I'm not sure which ones I would have to worry about.
