So I've been crushing face recently with my tournament eldar list so I'm losing opponents despite how polite I am about the list. To mitigate this issue I have come up with this list that brings what I believe to be just enough competitive edge to let me win on a normal ratio, but also not entirely crush my opponent.

Farseer
-Jetbike

Warlock

Harlequin Troupe
-3x Harlequins w\ shuriken pistol and harlequins kiss
-2x Harlequins w\ fusion pistol and harlequins kiss
-1x Troupe Master w\ harlequins kiss
-1x Shadowseer w\ harlequins kiss (psyker with the can you shoot me power)

10x Dire Avengers

5x Dire Avenger
-Wave Serpent, Holo-fields, scatter lasers

5x Dire Avenger
-Wave Serpent, Holo-fields, scatter lasers

20x Guardian Defenders
2x Starcannons

Fire Prism
-Holo-fields

Wraithknight
-Two heavy wraithcannons

Anyways, too brutal? Too soft?

Difficult to gauge if it's "competitive" without knowing how competitive your opponents (lists and tactics wise) are.
You're still bringing a list that you have "calculated" to win whilst having toned it down. Your list is not what I would call "friendly", but that's entirely my own very subjective view point.

How different is the above list from your tournament list? I'm guessing the min units of DA in WS's and Wraithknight are common to both and the Farseer normally has a Mantle?
What other units do you have available or would consider adding? Is trying a completely new set of tactics viable or are you trying to stay close to the style of your tournament list?

I would tone it down a step or two more, you can always increase the power again if you find yourself loosing "too often".

Another option to consider would be to set yourself a "handicap" - playing 5-10% fewer points than your opponents, although some people would find this as insulting as intentionally weakening your list or just as boring to play against as your tournament list - depends on the group, just a suggestion.

Why not just bring units you like fluff wise and the way they look, I find playing that way makes it fun for both players, remember that its not important to always win as long as you enjoy it (except at tournaments).

My tournament list has 4 Wave Serpents, min maxed, 2 fire prisms, mantle jetseer, and a wraithknight. The guy I'm primarily toning this down for has a good solid Ultramarine list that includes several drop pod dreadnaughts and Tigurius, Grav-centurions, scouts and combat squaded tac marines. He's a good player, with a good army, but when I bring the best of the Eldar codex up against him, it gets pretty nasty. I'm also telling him my list ahead of time, not necessarily for tailoring, but to sort of let him off the hook for the big surprises that this list can bring to bear.

And the fluff and looks is what I'm going for here. Love wave serpents, space clowns, and Dire Avengers. The Wraithknight just looks boss across the table, and the fire prism i just got an OOP one that I painted, magnetized and deffinitely is my favourite model in the entire army right now.

Well, it sounds like your opponent has a few tricks of his own. Give the list a go and see how it goes.

The Guardian blob and the foot-Vengers will be less mobile than you're used to, and might struggle against the Dreads that you probably normally just move away from. You could try Bright Lances instead of the Starcannons there.

Actually the answer to the dreads is the Harlequins, They should be able to mess one of them up in CC and the mobility of the heavy weapons I do have can go hunting for rear armour. Not necessarily going to work, but worth a shot, which is kind of the concept of the whole list.

Forgot about the Fusion Pistols, but if you're trying to Rend them to death I'd recommend Doom (S4 on the charge, you'd need a 6 followed by a 3+ or 5+ against Ironclads).

I'm hoping to wrap the guy in models on the pile in so I can get some rear armor

Attacks in combat against Walkers are always resolved against the front armour (in the same way they are resolved against rear armour on non-walker vehicles).

Oops, thought it was the armour you were facing, not always the front armour. Well if I can immobilize it or shoot it to death I'll be okay.

I hope this list does well, anyone who plays harlequins is good in my book (I used to run 2 units of 10 back in 4th) Also I would run the seer with your harlequins just so they become even better (not sure if that was the plan already).
