Love my Wolves, going to concentrate on them over my other armies since GW is making it impossible to buy all the new shiny stuff they are throwing at us each week (can you say over saturation?). As they stand now the SW codex is good but it can't compete with top tier armies. I am trying to improve my Wolves with the addition of Imperial Knight Allies. The best way I have come up with to complement my Wolves with Knights is to have the Knights attack the enemy from the front and have my Wolves drop directly on the enemy and alpha strike hard with melta and plasma using a mini-Logan Wing list.
This is what my first attempt at making this alliance work looks like:
HQ
Logan Grimnar - (drop pod #1)
TROOPS
Wolf Guard x5 - combi-melta x5 (drop pod #2)
Wolf Guard x7 - combi-plasma x6, TDA x2 (drop pod #3)
Wolf Guard x7 - combi-plasma x6, TDA x2 (drop pod #4)
Wolf Guard x7 - combi-plasma x6, TDA x2 (drop pod #5)
HEAVY
Long Fangs x6 - multi-melta x5 (drop pod #1 with Logan)
ALLIED DETATCHMENT
Imperial Knight Errant x2
Total = 2003 points
I like the idea of this list, pushing Knights in the front and Wolves dropping in to alpha blast then charging the enemy next turn with what is left. Sort of like two jaws of a wolf closing in on it's prey. In theory, the Knights should survive the first round of shooting and pull some fire on them instead of the dropped Wolf squads.
What I don't like is I don't have enough points to bolster my terminators with extras.
SECOND IDEA
My second thought is to drop one Knight Errant and one Drop Pod. Add a Land Raider, fill it up with a Wolf Guard squad and sent it forward with the Knight. It would free up points to use on bolstering my terminators but I lose the firepower, the OMG factor of two Knights and the staying power of a second Knight. Plus I don't think the LR will be quite the bullet magnet of a second Knight which means my solo Knight is in danger of being removed too early.
I'm looking for ideas and theories to better a Wolves and Knights list, what do you guys think?
