I started playing warhammer fantasy a little over 10 years ago.
My first army was skaven and my twin brother had dwarves. I was not able to fully understand and absorb the rules so, and relied almost wholly on the painting for enjoyment. I soon after sold off my army to buy a skateboard. I got back into the hobby about 5 years ago purchasing a horde IG army supporting 4 blob squads kitted with tons of special/power weapons and commisars. That was a bit too advanced for my newbie skillz to maneuver so I again put GW games on the shelf.
A few years ago I had a random draw back to fantasy after getting the inspiration for an undead army. I purchased and painted nearly 5000 points of undead before moving back to my first love, SKaven. I now have roughly 4000 points of undead (sold some off to purchase a mercenary warmachine army), 4000 points of Skaven, and 3000 points of Dwarves.
I love fantasy for its randomness and (arguable) balanced gameplay, but the gaming population has nearly died off completely where I live. I have recently got back into 40k supporting an IG list with 2 vendettas, inquisitors, and space marine allies. My biggest downfall is that I have a tendency of building uncompetetive lists just because I like the models, rules of models, or it sounds fluffy. I also love bum rushing my opponents on the second turn using outlflanking and deepstriking madness with sly marbo, storm troopers, alraheim, and creed... yeah I usually die horribly turn 2 or 3 but for a moment all is glorious! too bad IG are so squishy.
I plan on having an IG army that showcases every GW/FW supported regiment, using straight IG rules. The variety will be purely aesthetic. I also plan on purchasing a Necron army using a competitive consisting of night scythes w/warriors, A-barges, and a wraith star.
I love the Dakka community and hope to be a positive supportive member!
