Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds

Hello everyone!

I've played 40k for quite a while now, and me and a friend decided to start Warmachine as a sideproject! It seems like alot of fun, and I've watched a couple of How to Play videos on it (to grasp its "style"). We found a 2 player starter set which - perfectly enough - contains Khador and Menoth (he's been thinking of Khador for a while, and I about Mennoth).

The Menoth models found inside are:
Warcaster High Exemplar Kreoss
Crusader Heavy Warjack
Vanquisher Heavy Warjack
Repenter Light Warjack
Exemplar Cinerator Unit (5 models)

So, my question is: would this make a decent starter list (and of how many points? Haven't got the rules yet)? And, what would you add later on to improve/expand the army? Note that I don't care alot for how hard it is to play - I'm a rather quick learner - so I'd rather start with a tactical challenge than not.

Thanks in advance!

I was in a similar situation to this a few months ago.

The advise I was given is in this thread

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

If you can find a way to source some Halberds you can easily convert the Cinerators into Bastions. Grey Knight Halberds with only one hand on them actually fit perfectly. You just need to find a hand for their left arm.

You can still assemble the bodies, just don't put their shields or swords on.

Other than the Cinerators, the box is a great place to start.

Things to purchase after it.

Choir. Get these guys immediately. If you play Menoth, they're basically mandatory. They have 3 different buffs for Menoth Warjacks. Can't be targeted by Spells, can't be shot with non-magical guns, and a major boost to accuracy and damage with shooting or melee.

Vassal of Menoth. Get 2. Not quite as mandatory as Choir, but awesome just the same. They can do 2 things for Menoth jacks. A free attack, or a free move when a jack gets damaged. He can also zap the enemy with a magic bolt if he has nothing else to do.

Exemplar Errants with unit attachment. These guys are one of our 3 main infantry units, and the most versatile of the 3. They have good melee ability and decent shooting. They're also one of the only things in Menoth with innate Pathfinder(with UA) They're basically scouts, but with decent armor and a bit of bite in both melee and shooting. Errants also like you to bring an Errant Seneschal solo along as he gives them a buff to their shooting if nearby.

Heavy Warjack Kit(Reckoner/Sanctifier/Castigator) Get this bad boy and magnetize it to either be a Sanctifier or Reckoner. The Reckoner is the best 10 point jack in the game that only costs 8 points.

High Exemplar Kreoss(or pKreoss) likes lots of shooting, so a Redeemer Light Jack is a good idea as well. His common tactic is to feat, then shoot the enemy Warcaster while its completely exposed with a Redeemer, Vanquisher, and Reckoner. Not much can survive 3 pow14s, 2 pow15s, and 2 pow16s(with Choir and 2 Vassals to get 2 extra shots) and if it does it's on fire. Its commonly called Pop'n'drop

You'll also want to pick up Gorman and the Piper. a couple of Mercenary solos that are excellent support. Gorman can single handedly win games with his Black Oil grenades.

Zealots are another of our staple infantry units. They also like pKreoss's feat for them to have a turn of throwing their surprisingly damaging bombs. With their UA, they can have one turn where they are literally invincible(ok they can be killed by spells and Feats, but they can just pray to be untargetable by spells)

A theme of Menoth in general is "No you can't do that"

We deny a lot of special abilities.

'You can't target anything with spells"

"You can't shoot my jacks"

"You can't cast spells at all!"

"Fine, cast your stupid spells, but pay double the cost!"

"You hurt me a little, I'll just walk away so you stop doing that"

"No you can't knock me down"

"That's a nice upkeep spell you got there, I'll just make it go away"

"I ignore that buff your spell gives you because my attacks are Blessed"

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
