So I've really wanted to see the Tie Bomber be able to do more than it has. Lots of points spent on secondary weapons that may or may not do any damage. They have not been able to really shine as a missile boat should, in my opinion. So with all of the previewed cards from wave 4, I've put together a Bomber list and I'd like your thoughts.

Captain Jonus w/ Swarm Tactics, Flechette Torpedoes, Ion Pulse Missiles x2, Proton Bomb, Munitions Fail-safe.
Gamma Squadron Pilot w/ Flechette Torpedoes, Ion Pulse Missiles x2, Proton Bomb, Munitions Fail-safe
Scimitar Squadron Pilot w/ Flechette Torpedoes, Ion Pulse Missiles x2, Proton Bomb, Munitions Fail-safe
Total: 100 points

So against a 3 ship list, this could REALLY cause problems, even more so to lists that require a tight formation or use Actions. Flechette Torpedoes give Stress, and if the opponent doesn't do something drastic, you can pretty well guess where they will be next turn. Ion Pulse Missile to set up for a follow up Proton Bomb. Not Sure how well it would perform against a Tie Swarm, but Since most rely on Howlrunner to boost the rest of her squadron, and all of these torps/missiles will cause problems with formations, I THINK it would do okay, but I'll have to try it out.

The problem is you're flying a three-ship list with no real defense. Your stress/ion gimmick can cripple a similar elite list, but lists with 4+ ships will always have at least one ship free to act and you're probably going to lose a bomber in the initial pass. Meanwhile you're not doing a whole lot of damage with your limited weapons, so there's a good chance that your opponent will come out of the stress + ion barrage with few/no casualties, at which point naked bombers are not going to win the game for you.

Oh, and your failsafes aren't very efficient. You've already got three shots per bomber, which is usually enough to cover a bomber's entire life expectancy, so failsafes probably just mean you die with more shots remaining. Meanwhile Jonus hands out re-rolls that make it even less likely that you'll fail to do damage and get to benefit from the failsafe. It's a much better upgrade when you only have one missile, maybe two at most, and lack the accuracy upgrades that make missiles a consistent source of damage. In that case it's a cheap way of ensuring that you either do damage with your alpha strike or get 2-3 turns of fire out of your missiles. So if you like the failsafe idea you probably want to dump some of those secondary weapons and buy additional ships.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Peregrines right as always = P

You dont do enough damage with those missiles and loadouts. sure youll have control but so what, if they can still shoot you your losing hull and even though they have 6 hull, after a turn of fire can bring one down or cripple it.

Bombers work just fine as alpha strikers or even just as support ordnance. Like a scimitar flanking no one will really notice it if you got big bad soontir or interceptors flying about.

I dont think these new ordnances will be helping the bomber in anyway, The bomber is really good with high damage potenial shots, Assault missiles, Clusters with Jonus, Homing missiles, and APT.

Putting all your eggs in one basket isnt always the best solution in this game, Tournament wise that is.
