If you haven't yet bought a second starter set, I highly recommend it. My extra damage deck has already been cannibalized of three cards to replace friends missing pieces. The extra set of maneuver templates has been given to another friend to replace ones lost in a tragic accident involving a stray gesturing hand and a can of coke. (
LOL) Plus the price incentive is fantastic for your model collection! This is a often mentioned bit of advice, but always worth repeating for new players.
All personal opinion and maybe some speculation, but for your budget consideration: It's also worth pointing out that in
FFG's super suave way of designing product, you get a fair amount of reward for buying at least one of each expansion. For the budget conscious player, it is also worth pointing out that you'r purchase efficiency starts to go down the more copies of a ship you buy. Your maximum efficiency is arguably highest when you purchase one of any large expansion, and two of any blister(Excepting the HWK-290, and maybe X-wings and basic TIEs). After those points the usable content starts to diminish rapidly, but both the "Aces" expansions seem like they will reward you plenty for a second one if you choose to buy it. Especially because they will also blend perfectly with a pair of regular blisters of matching ships you bought earlier! I say this because we've seen enough now to think that
FFG seems willing to put more copies of popular cards or "must have more-of's" in later expansions. For instance if you really are excited about a full squad of stealth device Interceptors, but don't really want to buy that second Firespray,
FFG will likely slip a few copies of Stealth Device into wave five. Like on the TIE-Phantom perhaps. But by all means if you want ten of every ship, please help yourself! I won't complain about anyone supporting this game!
Which brings me to a question: Should I buy a third starter set? After the initial buy in of two starters, and a blister pack of each the X-Wing and TIE Fighter, I got three X's and five TIE's. (I also have at least one of each other expansion, but that's not the point) I would like to fill those numbers out to a full four X's and eight TIE's. Now the blister packs for each of those arguably don't come with a whole lot of interesting or overly usable cards, TIE fighter especially (these two and the HWK-290 kinda are exceptions to the rule). So at this point in the collection process, do I (A) go for another starter and a single TIE blister, (B) buy a X-wing Blister and three TIE Blisters, (C) use the GR-75's X-wing as my fourth and buy three TIE blisters? Or some other suggestion?
