I've taken a very long hiatus from 40k (spanning several years) and have decided to jump into 6th edition since the "Astra Militarum" codex is close to being released. I figured I'd post a hypthetical army list based on the current 5th edition IG codex so I can at least have an idea what my army should be like so I can start collecting and painting the appropriate amount of miniatures. Any and all critique, comments, and advise is very welcome. So without further ado:

HQ:
Company Command Squad = 50pts
+4 melta guns = 40pts
+Plasma Pistol = 10pts
+Master of Ordnance = 30pts
+Chimera (2 heavy bolters) = 55pts
Total HQ: 185pts


TROOPS:
Veteran Squad = 70pts
+3 plasma guns = 45pts
+heavy bolter = 10pts
+Chimera (2 heavy bolters) = 55pts
Sub Total: 180pts

x6 total Veteran Squads as above = 1080pts


FAST ATTACK:
Tauros Venator = 50pts
+twin-linked lascannon = 15pts
Sub Total = 65pts

Squadron of 3 Venators as above = 195pts

x3 total Fast Attack squadrons = 585 pts


GRAND TOTAL: 1850 points

It's an incredibly spammy list that will hurt armies that can't deal with lots of armour and will crumple easily to lists that can.

There is no flyer defense aside from weight of fire.

Aside from 3 Lascannon shots you will be outranged by most competitive lists. Those that don't out range you will eat your chimeras for breakfast with deathstar killiness.

You will struggle against other mech-heavy armies.

I'd highly recommend you diversify this list somewhat. It will be better and more fun to play with/against.

I guess what I'm trying to get across is the only reason to go for a spammy army is if it is a top tournament contender, and this list isn't a top tournament contender. I like chimera vets, but they're unsupported and quite squishy at the moment. Keep them as the core of your army but reduce their number and assist them with some tanks/flyers etc.

New codex comes out in a week or two. Wait until then...

I'm not familiar with the Tauros Venerators, but I'd drop 1 or 2 of those squads in favor of 1 or 2 Leman Russ tanks.
