Hello dakka
I am looking to create my first 1000pt army (my friend and I mostly just play 600pt battles)
I love the fluff of the wolves and have slowly been building up my collection of them over the past year

Hq
Rune priest
(Terminator armour, chooser of the slain)

Elites
x5 wolf guard
(Combo plasma, drop pod)
x5 wolf scouts
(x4 snipers, x1 heavy bolter)

Troops
x10 grey hunters
(Flamer, plasma gun, drop pod with death wind missile launcher)
x10 grey hunters
(Flamer, plasma gun, drop pod)

Fast attack
x1 land speeder typhoon
(Heavy bolter, typhoon missile launcher)
x5 fenrisian wolves

Heavy support
x4 long fangs
(x2 missile launchers, x1 heavy bolter,
x1 squad leader with plasma gun)

Rune priest goes with the wolf guard and launches living lightening, combo plasma alpha strikes, scouts infiltrate or behind enemy lines, long fangs provide support against hard targets, land speeder harasses along with the wolves.
Comments and critisism welcome, we don't normally play at this point level so maybe tactics that work at 600pt are crazy at this level

My comments will be in red.

A solid HQ choice.

The Wolf Guard look great. The Wolf Scouts... Not so much. Sniper Rifles do not mesh well with their improved outflanking ability. I would give them close combat weapons and a Meltagun, to act as a "behind enemy lines" disruption unit. Wolf Scouts are great at taking out artillery.

Troops
x10 grey hunters
(Flamer, plasma gun, drop pod with death wind missile launcher)
x10 grey hunters

I would give both squads 2x Plasma Gun - this will greatly improve their firepower for only 20 points. I would drop the Deathwind Launcher to pay for this.

Fast attack
x1 land speeder typhoon
(Heavy bolter, typhoon missile launcher)
A decent choice.

x5 fenrisian wolves
What are the dogs doing for your army? Having only 5 means they have little staying power and will die due to a stiff breeze. I would try to up the squad to ~15 models or drop them altogether.

Heavy support
x4 long fangs
(x2 missile launchers, x1 heavy bolter,
x1 squad leader with plasma gun)
Long Fangs are always a good choice, but yours are suffering from a serious identity crisis. You have weapons at 24", 36", and 48", which is not what Long Fangs want. Don't mix your range bands. Pick a role and stick to it. I always favor a squad of 6 models with 5 Missile Launchers. The Pack Leader really doesn't need a weapon.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick feedback! So would you suggest dropping the wolves and use the points on the long fang squad? Make them a squad of 6 with 5 missile launchers? I had the flamers with plasma to provide support when I get charged. Is that not a good idea? My opponent plays foot eldar and is starting a blood angels force so I imagine I'll be fighting in more combats then usual

The Plasmaguns will give you a much higher damage output when you drop down. D3 hits from the Flamer is nice when getting assaulted, but Counterattack should provide enough extra damage if you are fighting in CC. I would recommend getting points for a Wolf Standard in each squad - those re-rolls are great the turn they drop in.

I would cut the Fenrisian Wolves and upgrade the Log Fangs to Missile Launchers - as many as you can afford. Missile Launchers are an excellent and versatile weapon.

I notice that you have no dedicated anti-air firepower, do players in your group not take flyers?

Ok, I'll have to see where I can scrape some points together for the extra plasma guns. Yes, there are basically no fliers in our local meta, and I mainly just play against my friend who has foot eldar and soon blood angels. Our local gw also plays more for fluff and fun then competitive.

Dropping the Deathwind Launcher will pay for the Plasmaguns. You really don't need the Deathwind Launcher.

I wish my local gamers player for fluff and weren't competitive - It would be a nice change of pace, lol.

Oh right, sorry I missed that note. Thanks for the advice! I take it death wind missile launchers aren't widely used? Ya, having a group of players that would rather run "weaker" lists that make sense instead of "competitive" is great. The fluff is why I joined the game in the first place

Deathwinds are not a common choice, no. 20 points is a lot for such a mediocre weapon, especially in games of less than 1,000 points.
