So I got into the hobby when a friend gave me their old necron army. It's no frills and mostly old models, but it was ok to learn the game (which I am not great at, but enjoying - I get about 1 win for every 2/3 losses atm, and only against casual lists).
Anyway, I am now committed enough to want to invest in my first "proper" army, and I really like the look of Minotaurs. The only two "rules" I have are 1) I want the army to include every available Minotaur model, and 2) I want Moloc to have a bodyguard unit that fits into an Assault Ram.
So here is what I've figured out so far:
2 HQ + 1 Fast Attack
Moloc
Enkomi
Assault Ram
= 685pts
1 Elite
Hecaton
Lucius Drop Pod
=290pts
1 Heavy Support
Devastator Squad
Hamath Kraatos
+ 5 Marines
4 Missile Launchers w/Flakk
=300pts
So that's 1275 points for 2 HQ's, 1 Elite, 1 Fast Attack and 1 Heavy Support that have to go in my army. I'm open to changing around the Devastator squads load out, but I figured ML's were a good all-round choice.
I figured I should have one aegis + quad for the Devastators to deploy with for extra anti-flyer/interceptor. (100pts)
For Moloc's bodyguard I thought Vanguard Vets with SS/P-Weapons looked better than relic blade honour guards, but I'm not sure what power weapons to take. I'm not decided yet as to wether to take Axes, Lances or Mauls.
8 Veteran Vanguards
Storm Shields
Power Weapons
= 352pts
I liked the idea of a Thunderhawk as a Lord of War choice, which is another 775pts with the D-cannon option.
Basically I'm left with 498pts, and I still need at least 2 troop choices.
I was thinking maybe two full scout squads with camo cloaks and sniper rifles, and then 1 ten man space marine squad with a drop pod so I could chose whether or not I wanted Hecaton to come on 1st turn or wait.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Maybe have a void shield generator instead of the Quad Aegis Line? Are there too many big point sinks to make the list viable?
Thanks.
