Exalting boosts the post/thread's popularity rating. You can order threads to sort by most exalted as are popular ones displayed in other locations like the front page. There's more plans for the feature in future I think, but you'd have to ask legoburner about that.

There is also a section in your user ribbon which has any threads you have exalted. Its a good way of storing a link to a post or thread you want to remember for future use.
