I'm preparing for a small convention in Sioux City, Iowa in a couple of weeks that uses a rogue trader tounrament format, but isn't official (apparently.) I'd use an army that was a little kinder in the soft scores department, but the Necrons are all I have that can get up to 2000 pts. at the moment. So here's what i've got.
HQ
Necron Lord w/ Staff of Light, Veil, Orb
One of the C'tan (I'm leaning towards the Deciever for various reasons, not the least of which being he's the less monstrous of the two for sheer close combat and he costs less.)
Troops
12 Necron Warriors
12 Necron Warriors
10 Necron Warriors
Elites
8 Immortals
Fast Attack
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
10 Scarab Bases
Heavy Support
Monolith
Phase Out numer=12
I'm nowhere near as out of whack as those 15 Destroyers, Three Monoliths, and a C'tan kinds of lists, but Necron lists still catch a lot of flack for those gauss weapons and the wbb (which is pretty ridiculous, given the number of poundings I've taken over the time since I got this army.) As far as how the army is going to function, I'm thinking basic Necron phalanx-ish type stuff. Castle up for shooting armies. Fan out slightly more for assault. Use the Decievers special abilities paired with the Necron portal and the Veil to dink with assault troops.
I'm iffy on the scarabs. They're partyl there for the soft scores and partly because I can't get it out of my head that they really ought to be useful for tieing up things like assault units or (better yet) Devastators, but they always just end up getting nailed by Flamers or Powerfists or something.
